Computational strategies for flexible multibody systems

Applied Mechanics Reviews, 2003
The status and some recent developments in computational modeling of flexible multibody systems are summarized. Discussion focuses on a number of aspects of flexible multibody dynamics including: modeling of the flexible components, constraint modeling, solution techniques, control strategies, coupled problems, design, and experimental studies.

Interface reduction in flexible multibody systems

Materials Research Proceedings, 2023
Abstract. The problem of imposing the reference conditions in a floating frame of reference formulation is coupled with the necessity to reduce the interfaces to virtual nodes required to define the multibody joints. Two methods are implemented for rigid and interpolation multipoint constraints, and the reference condition matrix is derived employing ...

Flexibility Effects in Multibody Systems

1994
This paper summarizes procedures for studying flexible multibody systems using finite segment modelling. In these procedures flexible members of multibody systems are themselves modelled as multibody (or “lumped”) systems. The flexibility is then modelled by springs and dampers between the bodies.

Multibody Dynamics of Very Flexible Damped Systems

Multibody System Dynamics, 1999
The authors consider flexible multibody systems where the bodies may undergo large deformations. Both open and closed loop systems are considered with a variety of connecting joints. Kane's equations are used to obtain the governing dynamical equations. The formulation is then written in algorithmic form and implemented in a numerical procedure (FLXDYN)

Simulation of Wheels in Nonlinear, Flexible Multibody Systems

Multibody System Dynamics, 2002
The authors present the modeling of wheels within the framework of nonlinear flexible multibody systems. The elastic bodies are modeled using the finite element method, and holonomic and nonholonomic constraints among bodies are enforced via Lagrange multipliers.

Modeling of joints with clearance in flexible multibody systems

International Journal of Solids and Structures, 2001
Abstract This paper is concerned with the modeling of joints with clearance within the framework of finite element based dynamic analysis of nonlinear, flexible multi-body systems. For actual joints, clearance, lubrication and friction phenomena can significantly affect the dynamic response of the system.

Sensitivity Analysis of Rigid-Flexible Multibody Systems

Multibody System Dynamics, 1997
To develop an automated design technique, the sensitivity characteristics with respect to the design variables should be calculated. For many practical applications, the flexibility effects must be taken into consideration in order to describe the dynamic behavior of multibody systems involving deformable bodies.
