Fluorescence Recovery After Photobleaching (FRAP) in the Fission Yeast Nucleus

open access: yesBio-Protocol, 2013
We use fluorescence recovery after photobleaching (FRAP) to calculate the diffusion coefficient of GFP in the nucleoplasm of fission yeast. The FRAP method can be generally used to measure the mobility of proteins inside the cell or its organelles.

Primary cultures of chick osteocytes retain functional gap junctions between osteocytes and between osteocytes and osteoblasts [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
The inaccessibility of osteocytes due to their embedment in the calcified bone matrix in vivo has precluded direct demonstration that osteocytes use gap junctions as a means of intercellular communication.

Diffusion studies through fluorescence recovery after photobleaching in hydrated polyamides

open access: greenPolymer Engineering & Science, 2010
Abstract The effect of hydrogen bonding on the diffusivities of two almost identical fluorescent probes through polyamides was examined using fluorescence recovery after photobleaching (FRAP). The two molecules have the same geometry and a negligible difference in their molecular weight, the main difference confined is one ...

A Replication-Competent HIV Clone Carrying GFP-Env Reveals Rapid Env Recycling at the HIV-1 T Cell Virological Synapse

open access: yesViruses, 2021
HIV-1 infection is enhanced by cell–cell adhesions between infected and uninfected T cells called virological synapses (VS). VS are initiated by the interactions of cell-surface HIV-1 envelope glycoprotein (Env) and CD4 on target cells and act as sites ...

Some Secrets of Fluorescent Proteins: Distinct Bleaching in Various Mounting Fluids and Photoactivation of cyan fluorescent proteins at YFP-Excitation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Background The use of spectrally distinct variants of green fluorescent protein (GFP) such as cyan or yellow mutants (CFP and YFP, respectively) is very common in all different fields of life sciences, e.g. for marking specific proteins or cells

Live cell imaging reveals focal adhesions mechanoresponses in mammary epithelial cells under sustained equibiaxial stress [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Mechanical stimuli play a key role in many cell functions such as proliferation, differentiation and migration. In the mammary gland, mechanical signals such as the distension of mammary epithelial cells due to udder filling are proposed to be directly ...

Length-dependent disassembly maintains four different flagellar lengths in Giardia. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
With eight flagella of four different lengths, the parasitic protist Giardia is an ideal model to evaluate flagellar assembly and length regulation. To determine how four different flagellar lengths are maintained, we used live-cell quantitative imaging ...
