Potent monoclonal antibodies against multidrug‐resistant hypervirulent Klebsiella pneumoniae

open access: yesInterdisciplinary Medicine, EarlyView.
A novel immunization strategy using a low‐virulence, multidrug‐resistant strain yields synergistic monoclonal antibodies against hypervirulent Klebsiella pneumoniae. These antibodies provide cross‐serotype protection through a dual‐mechanism of pathogen clearance and immunomodulation, offering a promising non‐antibiotic therapeutic for resistant ...

Relative and Absolute Risk of Tendon Rupture with Fluoroquinolone and Concomitant Fluoroquinolone/Corticosteroid Therapy: Population-Based Nested Case–Control Study

open access: yesClinical drug investigation, 2018
Background and ObjectiveTendon rupture can result from fluoroquinolone exposure. The objective of this study was to quantify relative and absolute risk and determine how risk is affected by timing of exposure.MethodsThe UK Health Improvement Network ...

Duplex Recombinase Polymerase Amplification‐Lateral Flow Assay for Rapid Visual Detection of Critical Antibiotic Resistance Genes in Escherichia coli and Klebsiella pneumoniae From Positive Blood Cultures

open access: yesJournal of Clinical Laboratory Analysis, EarlyView.
This study developed a pair of duplex RPA‐LFA assays for the simultaneous detection of critical resistance genes, blaCTX‐M/mcr‐1 and blaoxa‐48‐like/blaNDM, from hemoculture samples. Under optimized conditions, duplex RPA was performed at 37°C–38°C for 25 min, followed by LFA for 10–15 min.

Design and microwave-assisted synthesis of a novel Mannich base and conazole derivatives and their biological assessment

open access: yesHeterocyclic Communications, 2021
4-Amino-5-methyl-2,4-dihydro-3H-1,2,4-triazol-3-one (1) was converted to the corresponding Schiff base (2) by treatment with salicylaldehyde. 1,2,4-Triazoles were then converted to the corresponding Mannich bases containing fluroquinolone core using a ...

Sequential Acquisition of Virulence and Fluoroquinolone Resistance Has Shaped the Evolution of Escherichia coli ST131

open access: yesmBio, 2016
Escherichia coli ST131 is the most frequently isolated fluoroquinolone-resistant (FQR) E. coli clone worldwide and a major cause of urinary tract and bloodstream infections.

Complicated Acute Appendicitis Conservatively Treated in Two Patients With Crohn's Disease: The Role of Intestinal Ultrasound and Contrast‐Enhanced Ultrasound

open access: yesJournal of Clinical Ultrasound, EarlyView.
Intestinal ultrasound and contrast‐enhanced ultrasound were used to diagnose, monitor, and guide conservative treatment of complicated acute appendicitis in two patients with Crohn's disease. Serial imaging enabled early identification of treatment response, allowing long‐term surgery‐free outcomes.

Effects of earthworms on the fate of tetracycline and fluoroquinolone resistance genes of sewage sludge during vermicomposting.

open access: yesBioresource Technology, 2018
Diverse antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) present in sewage sludge are difficult to be eliminated using conventional sludge treatment processes. To date, little remains known on the fate of the ARGs during vermicomposting of sludge.

Detecting Antibiotic Resistance in Strains of Selected Gram‐Negative Bacterial Species Using Raman Spectroscopy

open access: yesJournal of Raman Spectroscopy, EarlyView.
Raman spectroscopy successfully identified antibiotic‐resistant Gram‐negative strains. Resistant strains of four bacterial species were discriminated from sensitive ones with 99.1% accuracy using PLS regression. The method allows for rapid, label‐free detection of antibiotic resistance.

Admission Plasma Lipopolysaccharide‐binding protein, Procalcitonin, and Lactate for Early Identification of Nosocomial Infection in Cirrhotic Patients With Upper Gastrointestinal Bleeding: A Retrospective Analysis

open access: yesThe Kaohsiung Journal of Medical Sciences, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This study aimed to assess whether admission plasma lipopolysaccharide‐binding protein (LBP), procalcitonin (PCT), and lactate could improve detection of nosocomial infection in cirrhotic patients presenting with upper gastrointestinal bleeding (UGIB).

Increasing Macrolide and Fluoroquinolone Resistance in Mycoplasma genitalium

open access: yesEmerging Infectious Diseases, 2017
Escalating resistance to azithromycin and moxifloxacin is being reported for Mycoplasma genitalium in the Asia-Pacific region. Analyzing 140 infections, we found pretreatment fluoroquinolone-resistance mutations in parC (13.6%) and gyrA (5%).
