Evolutionary Insights into Irisin/FNDC5: Roles in Aging and Disease from Drosophila to Mammals
The Irisin/FNDC5 protein family has emerged as a pivotal link between exercise and the prevention of age-associated diseases. Irisin is highly expressed during exercise from skeletal and cardiac muscle cells, playing a critical role in mediating systemic

FNDC4 and FNDC5 Attenuate SARS‐CoV‐2 S1‐Induced Inflammatory Responses in Human Adipose Tissue
In obesity, reduced FNDC4 and FNDC5 amplify SARS‐CoV‐2 S1–driven inflammation in visceral adipose tissue. These adipo‐myokines limit adipocyte–macrophage inflammatory signalling, suggesting a protective role against viral‐induced adipose tissue dysfunction.

Brain FNDC5/Irisin Expression in Patients and Mouse Models of Major Depression
AbstractMajor depressive disorder (MDD) is a major cause of disability in adults. MDD is both a comorbidity and a risk factor for Alzheimer’s disease (AD), and regular physical exercise has been associated with reduced incidence and severity of MDD and AD. Irisin is an exercise-induced myokine derived from proteolytic processing of fibronectin type III

High fat diet attenuates the anticontractile activity of aortic PVAT via a mechanism involving AMPK and reduced adiponectin secretion [PDF]
Background and aim: Perivascular adipose tissue (PVAT) positively regulates vascular function through production of factors such as adiponectin but this effect is attenuated in obesity.

Abstract The global prevalence of obesity and related metabolic disorders has spurred interdisciplinary research to develop new intervention strategies. Current research is increasingly focusing on the exercise‐induced browning of white adipose tissue and the mechanisms by which it improves energy metabolism.

New insights into the cellular activities of Fndc5/Irisin and its signaling pathways
Fndc5, a well-defined myokine and also identified as an adipokine, has a critical role in modulation of metabolism and protection against obesity. These important functions are mediated by irisin, a secretory peptide produced from proteolytic processing ...

This study presents a novel strategy for periodontitis treatment by co‐delivering a membrane‐ and ribosome‐targeting antimicrobial peptide GF and Irisin through a pH‐responsive metal‐organic framework. The system enables sequential release, providing rapid antibacterial action, anti‐inflammatory and antioxidative effects, as well as promoting bone ...

The deposition of Amyloid-beta peptides (Aβ) is detected at an earlier stage in Alzheimer’s disease (AD) pathology. Thus, the approach toward Aβ metabolism is considered to play a critical role in the onset and progression of AD.

The effect of exercise interventions on Irisin level
Irisin is a hormone that is offered to be a hopeful remedial target in obesity and type 2 diabetes. It has received striking attention recently, whereas, the interactions between exercise training and irisin are still unclear.

Ontogeny and thermogenic role for sternal fat in female sheep [PDF]
Brown adipose tissue acting through a unique uncoupling protein (UCP1) has a critical role in preventing hypothermia in new-born sheep but is then considered to rapidly disappear during postnatal life.
