Heavy Metal Contamination: Impacts From Plants to the Food Chain and Eco‐Friendly Amelioration Strategies

open access: yesAgriFood: Journal of Agricultural Products for Food, EarlyView.
Heavy metal pollution reduces soil health and threatens food safety by entering plants; however, the use of nanoparticles, biofertilizers, and organic fertilizers such as biochar offers a promising strategy for improvement and sustainable agriculture. ABSTRACT Heavy metal (HM) pollution, resulting from human activities such as mining and the excessive ...

Application of a novel schema for describing fossil fern foliage and investigating taxonomic and morphological change across the Cretaceous–Paleogene boundary in western North America

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Botany, EarlyView.
Abstract Premise The Chicxulub asteroid impact at the Cretaceous–Paleogene (K–Pg) boundary triggered a mass extinction 66 million years ago. Ferns thrived in the aftermath of the extinction, evidenced by the well‐documented “fern spore spike.” However, fern macrofossil records across the K–Pg boundary are less understood.

Computational analysis of the effects of light gradients and neighbouring species on foliar nitrogen

open access: yesEcological Informatics, 2018
Abstract Foliar nitrogen is one of the key traits determining the photosynthetic capacity of trees. It is influenced by many environmental factors that are often confounded with the photosynthetic photon flux density (PPFD), which alone strongly modifies the nitrogen content and other foliar traits.

Real‐time monitoring of root dielectric properties for assessing crop plant damage caused by foliar application of glyphosate

open access: yesApplications in Plant Sciences, EarlyView.
Abstract Premise There is a knowledge gap regarding how foliar injury and restricted water uptake can be detected by measuring root dielectric response. This pot study nondestructively evaluated the efficiency of real‐time dielectric measurement to monitor the effects of glyphosate spraying.

Physiological and Biochemical Responses of ‘Burlat’ Sweet Cherry to Pre-Harvest Foliar Application of Calcium and Seaweed Extracts

open access: yesHorticulturae
Sweet cherry (Prunus avium L.) is a highly valued fruit, and optimal nutrient management is crucial for enhancing yield and fruit quality. However, the over-application of chemical fertilizers in cherry cultivation leads to environmental issues such as ...

Comparative Assessment of Landsat‐8 and SPOT‐7 Satellite Data With Field Spectral Measurements for Estimating Plant Diversity in Sandy Grasslands

open access: yesBiological Diversity, EarlyView.
We compared Landsat‐8 OLI, SPOT, and hyperspectral data for estimating vascular plant diversity in China's Hunshandak Sandland. SPOT data showed the strongest correlation with alpha diversity, followed by hyperspectral data, with Landsat‐8 performing the weakest.

IMPACT OF CULTIVAR ON THE NUTRITIONAL STATUS OF THE YOUNG APRICOT TREES (Prunus armeniaca L.)

open access: yesActa Scientiarum Polonorum: Hortorum Cultus, 2012
Mineral nutrition of apricot is very specific and depends on different factors such as soil fertility, soil pH, weather conditions, cultivars, rootstocks, fertilizers, age of trees etc. For these reasons, during 2008 and 2009 we evaluate nutrient status

Variation of Foliar Content of Nutriments of Gmelina arborea in the Counties of Osa, Golfito and Corredores, Costa Rica

open access: yesCiencias Ambientales, 2015
We assessed the variation of foliar nutriments concentration in 12 plantations of G. arborea (melina) with ages between 1-12 years old, of the Cantons of Osa, Golfito and Corredores in Costa Rica.

Dynamics of biotic resistance to plant invasions

open access: yesBiological Reviews, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Biotic resistance, the reduction in invasion success caused by native communities, plays an important role in the long‐term dynamics of biological invasions. A large body of empirical research on biotic resistance has accumulated since the last comprehensive review on the subject 20 years ago, enabling us to achieve a refined understanding of ...
