Observing the observers – uncovering the role of values in research assessments of organic food systems [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Assessing the overall effects of organic food systems is important, but also a challenge because organic food systems cannot be fully assessed from one single research perspective. The aim of the article is to uncover the role of values in assessments of

Structural and mechanistic basis for the regulation of the chloroplast signal recognition particle by (p)ppGpp

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
LHCPs are transported to the thylakoid membrane via the (cp)SRP pathway. This process involves a transit complex of (cp)SRP43, (cp)SRP54 and LHCP, which interacts with (cp)FtsY and Alb3 at the membrane. GTP hydrolysis by (cp)SRP54 and (cp)FtsY triggers complex dissociation.

Enhanced Food Availability can Deteriorate Fitness through Excessive Scrounging [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2023
In group foraging situations, the conventional expectation is that increased food availability would enhance consumption, especially when animals prioritize maximizing their food intake. This paper challenges this conventional wisdom by conducting an in-depth game-theoretic analysis of a basic producer-scrounger model, in which animals must choose ...

Immunoregulatory mechanisms of the arachidonic acid pathway in cancer

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The central role of the arachidonic acid (AA) pathway in anticancer immunity. Enzymes and metabolites of the AA pathway can play both immunosuppressive and immunostimulatory roles in the tumor microenvironment. Therefore, their tailored targeting could be beneficial as a standalone therapy or in combination with current cancer immunotherapy.

Taurine promotes glucagon‐like peptide‐1 secretion in enteroendocrine L cells

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Taurine, a sulfur‐containing amino acid, is likely taken up by enteroendocrine L cells via the taurine transporter. This process increases the levels of cytosolic ATP. The increase in intracellular Ca2+ concentrations and glucagon‐like peptide‐1 secretion through membrane depolarization is caused by the closure of ATP‐sensitive potassium channels ...
