Nurturing a More Just and Sustainable Food System: The First Year of Pace Law\u27s Food and Beverage Law Clinic [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
This article looks back at the Clinic\u27s first year and explores lessons learned in putting the theory behind the Clinic\u27s model into practice. Launching the Clinic required a leap of faith. Was there in fact a client demand for its services?

LDAcoop: Integrating non‐linear population dynamics into the analysis of clonogenic growth in vitro

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Limiting dilution assays (LDAs) quantify clonogenic growth by seeding serial dilutions of cells and scoring wells for colony formation. The fraction of negative wells is plotted against cells seeded and analyzed using the non‐linear modeling of LDAcoop.

Application of untargeted liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry to routine analysis of food using three-dimensional bucketing and machine learning

open access: yesScientific Reports
For the detection of food adulteration, sensitive and reproducible analytical methods are required. Liquid chromatography coupled to high-resolution mass spectrometry (LC-HRMS) is a highly sensitive method that can be used to obtain analytical ...

Colorectal cancer‐derived FGF19 is a metabolically active serum biomarker that exerts enteroendocrine effects on mouse liver

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Meta‐transcriptome analysis identified FGF19 as a peptide enteroendocrine hormone associated with colorectal cancer prognosis. In vivo xenograft models showed release of FGF19 into the blood at levels that correlated with tumor volumes. Tumoral‐FGF19 altered murine liver metabolism through FGFR4, thereby reducing bile acid synthesis and increasing ...

A win-win for legume mixtures [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
The inter-relationship between food production and biodiversity is now well established. The ecosystem services provided by the organisms within the environment include, for example, nutrient cycling, pest regulation and pollination, to name but a few ...

ATG4B is required for mTORC1‐mediated anabolic activity and is associated with clinical outcomes in non‐small cell lung cancer

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The relationship between anabolic and catabolic processes governing lung cancer cell growth is nuanced. We show that ATG4B, an autophagy regulator, is elevated in lung cancer and that high ATG4B is associated with worse patient outcomes. Targeting ATG4B in cells reduces growth, protein synthesis, and mTORC1 activity, demonstrating a new relationship ...
