Forage intake as one estimate of the nutritive value of Flint Hills rangeland forage

open access: yesKansas Agricultural Experiment Station Research Reports, 1977
Forage intake was used as an estimate of the nutritive value of Flint Hills pastures. The organic matter intake (OMI) ranged from 16.3 lb. to 22.05 lb. (7.40 to 10.0 kg) between June-August, 1976, and there was no clear difference between the burned and nonburned pastures.

Quantitative Trait Loci (QTL) for Forage Traits in Intermediate Wheatgrass When Grown as Spaced-Plants versus Monoculture and Polyculture Swards

open access: yesAgronomy, 2019
It has been hypothesized that the genetic control of forage traits, especially biomass, for grass plants growing as spaced-plants versus swards is different.

Forage Nutritional Value for Equine as Affected by Forage Species and Cereal Grain Supplementation

open access: yesThe Professional Animal Scientist, 2003
Abstract The objectives of this review were to determine the abilities and limitations of various forage species in meeting the equine nutrient requirements, to determine the potential role of cereal grains in providing the additional energy needs, and to explore the adverse health effects if grain supplementation is not managed properly.

Forage Production and Nutritive Value of Four Promising Sorghum X Sudangrass Hybrid in Korea

open access: yes, 2021
Sorghum x sudangrass hybrid (Sorghum bicolor (L.) Moench) is one of the most important annual grass utilized for supplemental summer forage. There were 14 National Livestock Cooperative Federation (NLCF)’s recommended forage sorghum´sudangrass hybrids in

Performance of drought‐tolerant maize for silage or grain in conventional and Kura clover perennial groundcover cropping systems

open access: yesAgrosystems, Geosciences & Environment
Drought‐tolerant (DT) maize (Zea mays L.) hybrids have demonstrated better performance than non‐DT hybrids when drought events are present. The objective of this study was to assess the performance of three DT maize hybrids for whole‐plant dry matter (DM)

Double-Cropping Systems Based on Maize, Sorghum, and Alfalfa: Impact on Nutritive Value and Silage Fermentation Quality

open access: yesAgronomy
The accelerating development of the forage industry and the land resources finiteness require the high-efficient forage cropping strategies. To investigate the nutritive quality of the mixed forage crop cultivation, a three-round field test of two double-
