Potential Effects of Prepubertal Exposure to Perfluorooctane Sulfonic Acid on the First Wave of Folliculogenesis in Young CD‐1 Mice

open access: yesBirth Defects Research, Volume 118, Issue 5, May 2026.
ABSTRACT Background Perfluorooctane sulfonic acid (PFOS) belongs to a group of synthetic chemicals referred to as per‐ and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) that are known to degrade slowly. Exposure to PFOS has been reported to cause birth defects and disrupt female sex hormone levels in mice.

Insulin-like growth factor-1 reduces cardiac autosis through decreasing AMPK/FOXO1 signaling and Na+/K+-ATPase-Beclin-1 interaction

open access: yesArchives of Medical Science
Introduction Insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1) promotes survival and inhibits cardiac autophagy disruption. Methods Male Wistar rats were treated with IGF-1 (50 µg/kg), and 24 h after injection hearts were excised.

Angiotensin-(1-7): Beyond the Cardio-Renal Actions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
It is well known that the RAS (renin–angiotensin system) plays a key role in the modulation of many functions in the body. AngII (angiotensin II) acting on AT1R (type 1 AngII receptor) has a central role in mediating most of the actions of the RAS ...

Testosterone Exposure During Fetal Masculinization Programming Window Determines the Kidney Size in Adult Mice

open access: yesThe FASEB Journal, Volume 40, Issue 7, 15 April 2026.
Kidney size is sex‐dimorphic and regulated by androgens in adult humans and mice. Male mice lacking the main testosterone‐producing enzyme HSD17B3 had reduced testosterone during a short fetal time window, leading to reduced size of kidneys in adults, which were not responsive to high adult testosterone.

Electroacupuncture Modulates Multiple Pathways for Neuroprotection and Neurorepair in Ischemic Stroke

open access: yesCNS Neuroscience &Therapeutics, Volume 32, Issue 4, April 2026.
EA exerts therapeutic effects in ischemic stroke through multiple mechanisms: it alleviates acute injury by suppressing neuroinflammation, excitotoxicity, oxidative stress, apoptosis, pyroptosis, ferroptosis, autophagy dysregulation, and blood–brain barrier disruption, while enhancing cerebral blood flow, angiogenesis, and neurogenesis to support ...
