Effects of Light Quality Treatments during the Grain Filling Period on Yield, Quality, and Fragrance in Fragrant Rice

open access: yesAgronomy, 2021
The effect of the light quality on 2-acetyl-1-pyrroline (2AP) during the grain filling period in fragrant rice has rarely been investigated. A pot experiment was carried out with two fragrant rice varieties, Xiangyaxiangzhan and Yuxiangyouzhan, grown ...

Metabolic Rewiring of the Shikimate Pathway Enables Rose‐Scented Rice

open access: yesPlant Biotechnology Journal, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Rice fragrance is a key determinant of grain quality, yet the aroma profile of cultivated rice is highly uniform and largely dominated by the popcorn‐like compound 2‐acetyl‐1‐pyrroline. Here we expanded the aromatic repertoire of rice by engineering a rose‐like fragrance through reconstruction of the phenylalanine‐derived 2‐phenylethanol (2‐PE)

A Repertoire of Major Genes From Crop Wild Relatives for Breeding Disease‐Resistant Wheat, Rice, Maize, Soybean and Cotton Crops

open access: yesPlant Breeding, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Global food demand is predicted to rise anywhere from 59% to 98% by 2050 because of increasing population. However, the continued depletion of natural resources and increasing biotic and abiotic stresses will continue to pose significant threats to global food security in coming years.

Estimating Glycemic Index of Rice-Based Mixed Meals by Using Predicted and Adjusted Formulae

open access: yesRice Science, 2017
The estimation of glycemic index (GI) of rice-based mixed meal either by using predicted GI (GIpred) or adjusted GI (GIadj) formula is unclear. This study aimed to determine the glycemic response of rice in rice alone or mixed meals and to identify the ...

Machine Vision‐Based Morphological Benchmarking and Extrusion Optimization of Analog Rice: A Digital Image Analysis Framework for Agricultural Grain Quality Evaluation

open access: yesApplied Research, Volume 5, Issue 5, October 2026.
A low‐cost Python‐based machine vision framework quantified rice morphology and optimized analog‐rice extrusion. Within the tested range, 50 Hz screw speed and 45 Hz cutter speed produced grains with 96.6% morphological similarity to the commercial Pusa Basmati 1121 reference.

Herbal Extracts and Plant‐Derived Bioactives in Atopic Dermatitis: Evidence, Mechanisms, Pediatric Safety, and Translational Priorities

open access: yesFood Science &Nutrition, Volume 14, Issue 9, September 2026.
Food‐derived bioactives, herbal extracts, and standardized botanical products are being investigated as adjunctive strategies for atopic dermatitis. Their biological activity is shaped not only by plant source and nominal dose, but also by fermentation, drying, heating, extraction, food‐matrix binding, gastrointestinal transformation, and formulation ...
