We compared two free water methods, T2 relaxometry-based CSFF and DTI-based DTI-FW, by associating them with age, cognitive score RAVLT, amyloid beta deposition from PiB SUVr, tau deposition from MK6240, aqueduct CSF flow from PC-MRI and ventricle CSF clearance from MK-PET. Results show that CSFF outperforms DTI-FW in most relation pairs.

Major depressive disorder (MDD) is a common mental disease with unclear pathophysiology. Herein, we explored the differences in the whole-brain gray matter free-water axial diffusivity (AD) and mean diffusivity (MD) values between MDD patients and healthy controls using free-water DTI.

The objective of this study was to explore the relationship between cognitive impairment and free-water elimination DTI (FWE-DTI) metrics in patients with intracranial vascular occlusion disease (IVOD) and transient ischemic attack (TIA). 22 IVOD with TIA patients were tested with cognitive scales and scanned using a 3T echo-planar imaging sequence ...

Background Glymphatic system dysfunction is linked to cognitive decline in dementia continuum. Diffusion magnetic resonance imaging markers like the Diffusion Tensor Image Analysis Along the Perivascular Space (DTI-ALPS) index and whole-brain free water (FW) fraction allow non-invasive evaluation of glymphatic ...

Motivation: Microstructural brain abnormalities are well documented in people with HIV (PWH). However, the effects of long-term marijuana use on white matter integrity are less established. Goal(s): The goal of this study is to examine if HIV infection and chronic marijuana use have differential or additive effect on white matter abnormalities ...

Motivation: The study aims to address the limitations of standard DTI in detecting subtle white matter alterations in individuals with mild cognitive impairment (MCI). Goal(s): Compare standard vs. free-water (fw) corrected tractography for MCI assessment.

Motivation: Diffusion tensor imaging in the spinal cord is compromised by partial volume effects from surrounding cerebrospinal fluid. Free-water elimination shows promise of partial volume effect reduction in the brain but has never been tested on the human spinal cord.

Background: Dementia is characterized by a cognitive decline in memory and other domains that lead to functional impairments. As people age, subjective memory complaints (SMC) become common, where individuals perceive cognitive decline without objective deficits on assessments.
