Cell wall target fragment discovery using a low‐cost, minimal fragment library

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
LoCoFrag100 is a fragment library made up of 100 different compounds. Similarity between the fragments is minimized and 10 different fragments are mixed into a single cocktail, which is soaked to protein crystals. These crystals are analysed by X‐ray crystallography, revealing the binding modes of the bound fragment ligands.

The effect of refrigeration and room temperature storage conditions on the physico-chemical characteristics of hybrid and freeze-dried blueberries

open access: yesJournal of Agriculture and Food Research
In order to preserve the nutritional properties of fruits after dehydration, it is necessary to use appropriate storage methods. The traditional freeze-dried and combination-dried i. e. vacuum pre- and freeze post-dried, freeze pre- and vacuum post-dried,

The influence of drying methods on the physicochemical, functional, and antioxidant properties of passion fruit peel

open access: yesShipin yu jixie, 2023
Objective: This study aimed to investigate the effects of drying methods on passion fruit peels. Methods: Passion fruit peels were treated with microwave vacuum freeze-drying, vacuum freeze-drying, heat pump drying, and far-infrared radiation drying. The

The Effects of Freeze-Drying on the Strength Characteristics of Naturally Aged Book Papers [PDF]

open access: yes, 1981
Libraries occasionally have water main breaks, fires and floods. These disasters cause considerable water damage to thousands of books. Books that are left wet on the shelves will grow mold.

Microwave irradiation enhances the in vitro antifungal activity of citrus by-product aqueous extracts against Alternaria alternata [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
The effect of two lemon by-product aqueous extracts at different concentrations (14, 7, 3.5 and 1 mg mL−1) was tested against the in vitro growth of Alternaria alternata.

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

Effects of freeze-drying on cytology, ultrastructure, DNA fragmentation, and fertilizing ability of bovine sperm [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Freeze-drying sperm is an alternative to cryopreservation. Although sperm from various species has been freeze-dried, there are few reports for bovine sperm.

The planar cell polarity protein Vangl2 interacts with the PDZ‐domains of Scribble but not with a unique PDZ‐like domain in Inturned

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Structural and biochemical characterisations show that the planar cell polarity (PCP) protein Inturned harbours a unique PDZ‐like domain that does not bind canonical PDZ‐binding motifs (PBMs) like that of another PCP protein Vangl2. In contrast, the apical‐basal polarity protein Scribble contains four PDZ domains that bind Vangl2, but one PDZ domain ...

In vitro evaluation of spray and freeze-dried bovine colostrum powder and their effects on the nutritional and functional properties

open access: yesInternational Journal of Food Properties
Bovine colostrum is the initial milk produced after birth that contains high levels of immunoglobulins and antimicrobial peptides. This study examined the production of bovine colostrum powder using two methods including spray- and freeze-drying.

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.
