Effect of L-fucose and fucose-rich polysaccharides on elastin biosynthesis, in vivo and in vitro

open access: yesBiomedicine & Pharmacotherapy, 2004
With increasing age elastic fibres in human skin are progressively lysed and skin elasticity is also decreasing. Still there is an age-dependent increase of elastic fibre surface density, mostly due to an alteration of the fibres. The present experiments were undertaken to explore if L-fucose and fucose-rich polysaccharides (FROP-s) could influence ...

Modulation of Aging Diseases via RAGE Targets: A Dietary Intervention Review

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This paper analyzes RAGE ligand‐binding mechanisms and signaling, proposing intervention strategies targeting these interactions. It emphasizes dietary polyphenols, polysaccharides, and terpenoids delivered via functional foods for anti‐aging. These compounds offer long‐term, safe intervention through dietary supplementation, providing dual nutritional

Carbohydrate specificity of sea urchin sperm bindin: a cell surface lectin mediating sperm-egg adhesion. [PDF]

open access: yes, 1982
We have examined the carbohydrate specificity of bindin, a sperm protein responsible for the adhesion of sea urchin sperm to eggs, by investigating the interaction of a number of polysaccharides and glycoconjugates with isolated bindin.

Crystal Structure of the Cysteine-Rich Domain of Mannose Receptor Complexed with a Sulfated Carbohydrate Ligand [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
The macrophage and epithelial cell mannose receptor (MR) binds carbohydrates on foreign and host molecules. Two portions of MR recognize carbohydrates: tandemly arranged C-type lectin domains facilitate carbohydrate-dependent macrophage uptake of ...

Evaluation the Level of a-L-fucose and protein Bound Fucose (PBF) in diabetic patients [PDF]

open access: yesAl-Mustansiriyah Journal of Science, 2017
Biochemical changes occurring in two types of diabetic patients have been investigated to identify the correlations between these changes and type 1 and type 11 of diabetic patients, in comparison with that of normal healthy, sera of 68 diabetic patient with type 1 and type 11were used to estimate the L-fucose level and other related parameters.

Collision-Induced Fragmentation of Oligosaccharides: Mechanistic Insights for Mass Spectrometry-Based Glycomics. [PDF]

open access: yesAngew Chem Int Ed Engl
Glycan fragmentation with collision‐induced dissociation (CID) mass spectrometry (MS) leads to a range of specific disassembly mechanisms, which are being reviewed in detail. Abstract Structural alterations in oligosaccharides are often associated with disease, positioning clinical glycomics as an emerging tool for diagnostics.

Radioactive fucose as a tool for studying glycoprotein secretion

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Medical and Biological Research, 1998
The efficiency and reliability of radioactive fucose as a specific label for newly synthesized glycoproteins were investigated. Young adult male rabbits were injected intravitreally with [3H]-fucose, [3H]-galactose, [3H]-mannose, N-acetyl-[3H ...

A spectrophotometric study of the behavior of carbohydrates in seventy-nine per cent sulfuric acid [PDF]

open access: yes, 1949
The spectral characteristics of solutions of eighteen representative monosaccharides in 79 per cent sulfuric acid have been determined for solutions maintained for 2 hours at 25° and 15 minutes at 100°.

The Diverse Contributions of Fucose Linkages in Cancer [PDF]

open access: yesCancers, 2019
Fucosylation is a post-translational modification of glycans, proteins, and lipids that is responsible for many biological processes. Fucose conjugation via α(1,2), α(1,3), α(1,4), α(1,6), and O’- linkages to glycans, and variations in fucosylation linkages, has important implications for cancer biology.

Aberrant Glycosylation of IgG in Children With Active Lupus Nephritis Alters Podocyte Metabolism and Causes Podocyte Injury

open access: yesArthritis &Rheumatology, EarlyView.
Objective Podocytes are integral to the maintenance of the glomerular filtration barrier. Their injury results in proteinuria and disease progression in lupus nephritis (LN). Aberrant IgG glycosylation drives podocyte injury in LN and leads to cytoskeletal rearrangement, motility changes, and decreased nephrin production.
