Fucosylated chondroitin sulfate diversity in sea cucumbers: A review

Carbohydrate Polymers, 2014
Fucosylated chondroitin sulfate (FucCS) is structurally distinct glycosaminoglycans found from the sea cucumber body wall consisted of chondroitin sulfate type backbone with attached sulfated or non-sulfated fucose side chain. Structurally this compound plays an important role in maintaining the body wall integrity and possesses a wide spectrum of ...

Immunomodulatory effects of fucosylated chondroitin sulfate from Stichopus chloronotus on RAW 264.7 cells

Carbohydrate Polymers, 2021
Sea cucumbers were nutritional food and traditional Chinese medicine. In this study, fucosylated chondroitin sulfate from sea cucumber Stichopus chloronotus (fCS-Sc), a potential anticoagulant agent and immunological adjuvant, was investigated for its immune activation effects on RAW 264.7 macrophage for the first time.

The structure of a fucosylated chondroitin sulfate from the sea cucumber Cucumaria frondosa

Carbohydrate Polymers, 2017
A fucosylated chondroitin sulfate (FCS) CF was isolated from the sea cucumber Cucumaria frondosa and purified by anion-exchange chromatography. Chemical and NMR spectroscopic methods were applied for the structural characterization of this biopolymer. The backbone of CF was found to consist of chondroitin sulfate A and E fragments together with rather ...

Conformational and physicochemical properties of fucosylated chondroitin sulfate from sea cucumber Apostichopus japonicus

Carbohydrate Polymers, 2016
This study aimed at investigating the chain conformation and physicochemical properties of fucosylated chondroitin sulfate extracted from sea cucumber Apostichopus japonicas (Aj-fCS). By using HPSEC-MALLS-Visc-RI, Mw, z(1/2), Rh and [η] for Aj-fCS were determined as 58.0±4.4kDa, 21.8±1.3nm, 12.5±1.3nm and 27.8±0.5mL/g respectively.

Depolymerization of fucosylated chondroitin sulfate from sea cucumber, Pearsonothuria graeffei, via 60Co irradiation

Carbohydrate Polymers, 2013
A method for depolymerization of a novel fucosylated chondroitin sulfate from Pearsonothuria graeffei (fCS-Pg) using (60)Co irradiation in water solution was developed in the current study. Fragments with varying molecular weights were obtained by (60)Co irradiation at different dosages and sample concentrations.

Chemical Synthesis of Fucosylated Chondroitin Sulfate Oligosaccharides

The Journal of Organic Chemistry, 2020
Fucosylated chondroitin sulfates (FuCSs) are a unique type of polysaccharides occurring in sea cucumber that show a variety of biological activities. In particular, well-defined FuCS oligosaccharides, consisting of a trisaccharide repeating unit of β-d-GalNAc(4,6-diS)-(1→4)-[α-l-Fuc(2,4-diS)-(1→3)]-β-d-GlcUA, display potent anticoagulant activity via ...

Chemical Fucosylation of a Polysaccharide: A Semisynthetic Access to Fucosylated Chondroitin Sulfate

Biomacromolecules, 2015
Chemical O-glycosylation of polysaccharides is an almost unexplored reaction. This is mainly due to the difficulties in derivatizing such complex biomacromolecules in a quantitative manner and with a fine control of the obtained structural parameters.
