Regulating Functional Foods: Pre- and Post-Market Strategy [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
As best we understand the government, its first argument runs along the following lines: that health claims lacking significant scientific agreement are inherently misleading because they have such an awesome impact on consumers as to make it virtually

The Market of Functional Foods [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
In our work, we compare conventional foods with functional foods in terms of consumer perception. Nowadays, in addition to conventional foods, the production of functional foods is becoming more and more widespread globally, including in Hungary ...

Decoding the dual role of autophagy in cancer through transcriptional and epigenetic regulation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Transcriptional and epigenetic regulation controls autophagy, which exerts context‐dependent effects on cancer: Autophagy suppresses tumorigenesis by maintaining cellular homeostasis or promotes tumor progression by supporting survival under stress. In this “In a Nutshell” article, we explore the intricate mechanisms of the dual function of autophagy ...

Untargeted metabolomics based on ultra-high performance liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry/MS reveals the lipid-lowering mechanism of taurine in hyperlipidemia mice

open access: yesFrontiers in Nutrition
IntroductionTaurine has a prominent lipid-lowering effect on hyperlipidemia. However, a comprehensive analysis of the effects of taurine on endogenous metabolites in hyperlipidemia has not been documented.

Exogenous Polyamines Influence In Vitro Microbial Adhesion to Human Mucus According to the Age of Mucus Donor

open access: yesMicroorganisms, 2021
Adhesion to intestinal mucus is the first step for microbiota colonization in early life. Polyamines are polycations with important physiological functions in both procaryotic and eucaryotic cells.

Autophagy in cancer and protein conformational disorders

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Autophagy plays a crucial role in numerous biological processes, including protein and organelle quality control, development, immunity, and metabolism. Hence, dysregulation or mutations in autophagy‐related genes have been implicated in a wide range of human diseases.

Blood glucose and blood pressure lowering effect of diets supplemented with whole unripe plantain flour and effects on altered biomolecules in diabetic/hypertensive rats

open access: yesDiscover Food
Plantain has been used in folklore for the management of diabetes and hypertension. The locals either make whole unripe plantain fruits into wet slurry or powdered form.

Modelling the dynamics of online food delivery services on the spread of food-borne diseases [PDF]

open access: yesModel. Earth Syst. Environ. 10 (2024), no. 4, 4993--5008
We propose and analyze a deterministic mathematical model for the transmission of food-borne diseases in a population consisting of humans and flies. We employ the Caputo operator to examine the impact of governmental actions and online food delivery services on the transmission of food-borne diseases.

Functional Pet Foods [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Functional foods provide health benefits if they are consumed on regular basis. Some nutraceutical pet diets have been demonstrated to exert health benefits in vitro and in vivo while also exhibiting palatability to the animals.

Integrative systems‐level analysis reveals a contextual crosstalk between hypoxia and global metabolism in human breast tumors

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Breast tumor samples scored for metabolic deregulation (M1 to M3) were given a hypoxia score (HS). The highest HS occurred in patients with strongest metabolic deregulation (M3), supporting tumor aggressiveness. HS correlated with the highest number of metabolic pathways in M1. This suggests hypoxia to be an early event in metabolic deregulation.
