QSAR analysis of furanone derivatives as potential COX-2 inhibitors: kNN MFA approach
A series of thirty-two furanone derivatives with their cyclooxygenase-2 inhibitory activity were subjected to quantitative structural–activity relationship analysis to derive a correlation between biological activity as a dependent variable and various ...

Oxidation of Chiral 2(5H)-Furanone Bis-Thioethers to Disulfoxides
Novel disulfinyl derivatives based on 3,4-dichloro-2(5H)-furanone, aliphatic dithiols, and monoterpene alcohols were synthesized. Chiral bis-thioethers in the molecules of which the dithiol fragment links two five-membered cycles at C4 atoms were ...

Convenient Synthesis of 3,4-Dichloro-5-hydroxy-2(5H)-Furanone Glycoconjugates
3,4-Dichloro-5-hydroxy-2(5H)-furanone treated with methyl chloroformate in the presence of diisopropylethylamine (Hünig’s base) gave the corresponding carbonate. The labile methoxycarbonyloxy group smoothly undergoes substitution by amino alcohols.

Side-chain Modifications of Highly Functionalized 3(2H)-Furanones
A series of 3(2H)-furanones, based on side-chain modifications of a parent 3(2H)-furanone, was synthesized in good yield. The parent compound was prepared by hydrogenolysis, and subsequent acid hydrolysis, of isoxazole derivatives.

Thio Derivatives of 2(5H)-Furanone As Inhibitors against Bacillus subtilis Biofilms [PDF]
Gram-positive bacteria cause a wide spectrum of infectious diseases, including nosocomial infections. While in the biofilm, bacteria exhibit increased resistance to antibiotics and the human immune system, causing difficulties in treatment. Thus, the development of biofilm formation inhibitors is a great challenge in pharmacology.
