The complex roles of μ-opioid receptor phosphorylation: A key determinant in receptor signaling and regulation

open access: yes, 2015
Copyright © 2015 by The American Society for Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics. This Commentary focuses on two articles in the October 2015 issue of Molecular Pharmacology that investigate the role of μ-opioid receptor phosphorylation in ...

KDM7A and KDM1A inhibition suppresses tumour promoting pathways in prostate cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Treatment resistance is a major challenge for patients with advanced prostate cancer. This study examined an alternative approach to target the major prostate cancer‐promoting pathway by targeting epigenetic factors, whose levels are higher in tumours.

Hijacking emergency granulopoiesis: Neutrophil ontogeny and reprogramming in cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Neutrophils are highly plastic innate immune cells; their functions in cancer extend beyond the tumour microenvironment. This Review summarises current understanding of neutrophil maturation and heterogeneity and highlights tumour‐induced granulopoiesis as a systemic programme that expands immature, immunosuppressive neutrophils via tumour‐derived ...

A systems and molecular analysis of G protein-mediated signalling [PDF]

open access: yes
The ability of cells to respond correctly to signals from their microenvironment is an essential prerequisite of life. Many external signals are detected through G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) signalling pathways, which control all aspects of ...

Cannabinoid-Driven Rewiring of GPCR and Ion Channel Signaling in Lung Cancer

open access: yesBiomedicines
Lung cancer remains the leading cause of cancer-related mortality worldwide, with non-small cell lung cancer accounting for the majority of cases and exhibiting persistent challenges related to therapy resistance and metastatic progression.

Metastasis on pause: How dormant tumor cells stay hidden within the tumor microenvironment and evade immune surveillance

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Dormant cancer cells can hide in distant organs for years, evading treatment and the immune system. This review highlights how signals from the surrounding tissue and immune environment keep these cells inactive or trigger their reawakening. Understanding these mechanisms may help develop therapies to eliminate or control dormant cells and prevent ...

Molecular dynamics study of melatonin binding to homology modelled Mel1a G-protein coupled receptor [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
The Mel1a G-coupled Protein receptor (GPCR) was modelled using the I-Tasser online web service. All-atom molecular dynamics was used to improve the structure.

Developmental programmes drive cellular plasticity, disease progression and therapy resistance in lung adenocarcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study shows that lung adenocarcinomas exploit developmental branching morphogenesis to acquire a therapy resistant basal‐like tumour cell state. This process was found to be regulated by combined TP53 loss‐of‐function and type‐I interferon signalling, identifying a novel axis for biomarker and therapeutic target discovery.
