WE‐G‐211‐01: Cross‐Sectional Imaging ‐ Computed Tomography
Medical Physics, 2012The introduction of new cross‐sectional imaging techniques in the 1970's and 1980's led to great improvements in the diagnosis and treatment of medical conditions. In this symposium, we will chronicle the development of three of these Methods: computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and ultrasonic imaging (US).

TU‐G‐WAB‐01: Advanced Applications in Deformable Registration
Medical Physics, 2013The field of deformable image registration has seen many technical advances over the past decade, with increases in accuracy, the speed of the algorithms, and the flexibility of the algorithm to handle complex, multi‐modality images. These technical advances have enabled further advances in the applications of deformable image registration.

MO‐G‐213AB‐01: Quantification of TomoTherapy MVCT Dose
Medical Physics, 2012Purpose: To quantify MVCT dose of TomoTherapy for three jaw settings, J4, J1, and J0.1, corresponding to beam widths of 7 mm, 4 mm, and 3 mm, respectively, at the isocenter plane, and three imaging modes, fine, normal, and coarse, corresponding to a couch speed of 4, 8, and 12 mm/rotation, respectively.

WE‐G‐BRC‐01: Risk Assessment for Radiosurgery
Medical Physics, 2016Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) originated as an industrial engineering technique used for risk management and safety improvement of complex processes. In the context of radiotherapy, the AAPM Task Group 100 advocates FMEA as the framework of choice for establishing clinical quality management protocols.

Abstract PL04-01: G-quadruplexes and DNA dynamics
Cancer Research, 2017Abstract DNA is structurally dynamic in ways that have a consequence for biologic processes. A class of four-stranded DNA structure, called the G-quadruplexes, can be formed from G-rich single-stranded DNA. There is now a good level of understanding of the structural biophysics of G-quadruplexes along with a large body of work on the ...

WE‐G‐224‐01: History Symposium ‐ Historical Aspects of Brachytherapy
Medical Physics, 2011This presentation will review some of the historic developments in brachytherapy treatment. The early history of brachytherapy is primarily the history of radium and its daughter products, particularly 222Rn. Much of this history is interwoven with the histories of institutions in North America and Europe, such as the Memorial Hospital, Harvard Medical

TU‐G‐214‐01: Imaging of Necrosis and PET Imaging
Medical Physics, 2011Purpose: Molecular targeted radiation protecting drugs can reduce the risk of injury to normal tissues in patients treated with radiotherapy. Inhibitors of enzyme GSK3β markedly attenuate radiation induced apoptosis in normal tissues but not in cancer. These drugs prevented radiation induced injury in brain, intestine, bone marrow and skin.
