Modulatory Effects of Eschscholzia californica Alkaloids on Recombinant GABAA Receptors

open access: yesBiochemistry Research International, 2015
The California poppy (Eschscholzia californica Cham.) contains a variety of natural compounds including several alkaloids found exclusively in this plant.

Is there a role for cannabidiol in obesity, metabolic syndrome and binge eating?

open access: yesBritish Journal of Pharmacology, EarlyView.
Cannabidiol (CBD) is one of the most abundant phytocannabinoids isolated from the Cannabis sativa plant. CBD is a lipophilic, non‐intoxicating substance that differently from Δ9‐tetrahydrocannabinol (Δ9‐THC) does not present the typical profile of a drug of abuse.

Novel approaches for drug development against chronic primary pain: A systematic review

open access: yesBritish Journal of Pharmacology, EarlyView.
Abstract Chronic primary pain (CPP) persisting for more than 3 months, associated with significant emotional distress without any known underlying cause, is an unmet medical need. Traditional or adjuvant analgesics do not provide satisfactory pain relief for a great proportion of these patients.

Ethanol-Induced Death of Postnatal Hippocampal Neurons

open access: yesNeurobiology of Disease, 2002
Fetal alcohol exposure causes severe neuropsychiatric problems, but mechanisms of the ethanol-associated changes in central nervous system development are unclear.

Cannabigerol reverses mechanical allodynia through α2A‐adrenergic modulation of thalamocortical signaling in chemotherapy‐induced neuropathy

open access: yesBritish Journal of Pharmacology, EarlyView.
Abstract Background and Purpose Chemotherapy‐induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN) is a prevalent and treatment‐resistant side effect of platinum‐based chemotherapy, characterised by mechanical allodynia. Cannabigerol (CBG), a non‐psychoactive cannabinoid, has shown antinociceptive potential, but its site and mechanism of action remain unclear.

A PK/PD study on antihyperalgesia by an α2/3‐GABAA receptor PAM in mice: Lack of tolerance liability and potential involvement of γ1‐GABAA receptors

open access: yesBritish Journal of Pharmacology, EarlyView.
Abstract Background and Purpose GABAA receptors (GABAARs) are heteropentameric ion channels that control almost all CNS functions, including spinal nociception. Most GABAARs contain a γ2 subunit but differ in their α and β subunit composition. TPA023B is an α2/α3 subtype selective, non‐sedative, positive allosteric modulator (PAM) with antihyperalgesic

Opening closed inward rectifier potassium channel doors

open access: yesBritish Journal of Pharmacology, EarlyView.
Inwardly rectifying potassium (KIR) channels are essential regulators of membrane potential in excitable and non‐excitable tissues. Although KIR channels exhibit a biophysical preference for potassium influx due to voltage‐dependent block of outward current by polyamines and Mg2+, under physiological conditions, they predominantly mediate K+ efflux ...

Impact of long‐term treatment with cenobamate on concomitant usage of antiseizure medications: A real‐world retrospective study in Spain

open access: yesEpilepsia, EarlyView.
Abstract Objectives This study explored the safety and effectiveness of adjunctive cenobamate (CNB) in patients with different levels of drug‐resistant epilepsy (DRE) in a real‐world setting, including its impact on the use of co‐antiseizure medication (co‐ASM). Methods This was a single‐center, retrospective, observational study.
