Biotechnological applications of functional metagenomics in the food and pharmaceutical industries [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
peer-reviewedMicroorganisms are found throughout nature, thriving in a vast range of environmental conditions. The majority of them are unculturable or difficult to culture by traditional methods.

Lactulose Biosynthesis with Enzymes of Lactose-Fermenting Micromycetes and Bacteria

open access: yesТехника и технология пищевых производств
Lactulose is a well-studied prebiotic popular in medicine and the food industry. β-Galactosidases offer an alternative to traditional chemical methods of lactulose production. The article describes lactulose biosynthesis with crude enzyme preparations of

Dihydroorotate dehydrogenase (DHODH) regulates trophoblast syncytialization through organelle stress–induced cellular senescence

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The inhibition of mitochondrial dihydroorotate dehydrogenase (DHODH) impairs syncytialization and induces cellular senescence via mitochondrial and endoplasmic reticulum stress in human trophoblast stem cells, elevating sFlt1/PlGF levels, a hallmark of placental dysfunction in hypertensive disorders of pregnancy.

Senescence-associated beta-galactosidase is lysosomal beta-galactosidase

open access: yesAging Cell, 2006
Replicative senescence limits the proliferation of somatic cells passaged in culture and may reflect cellular aging in vivo. The most widely used biomarker for senescent and aging cells is senescence-associated beta-galactosidase (SA-beta-gal), which is defined as beta-galactosidase activity detectable at pH 6.0 in senescent cells, but the origin of SA-

Present status on removal of raffinose family oligosaccharides - a Review

open access: yesCzech Journal of Food Sciences, 2019
Raffinose family oligosaccharides (RFOs) are α-galactosyl derivatives of sucrose or glucose. They are found in a large variety of seeds from many different families such as beans, vegetables and whole grains.

Construction, Isolation and Implications of Repressor‐galactosidase ·ß‐galactosidase Hybrid Molecules [PDF]

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Biochemistry, 1977
Escherichia coli heterogenotes, which produce hybrid molecules between the chimaeric protein repressor‐galactosidase and the enzyme β‐galactosidase, were constructed. Repressor‐galactosidase. in which fully active lac repressor is covalently linked to active β‐galactosidase, is an aggregate with a core structure of four β‐galactosidase parts and two ...

PARP inhibitors induce a senescence phenotype in non‐small cell lung carcinoma cell lines

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Talazoparib is the most potent inducer of senescence among different PARP1 inhibitors in human NSCLC cells. In the absence of PARP, no senescence phenotype was observed, demonstrating that PARP1 is necessary for the induction of senescence by this inhibitor.

Biochemical characterization of digestive carbohydrases from Xanthogaleruca luteola and inhibition of its α-amylase by inhibitors extracted from the common bean [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Xanthogaleruca luteola Müll. (Col.: Chrysomelidae) is a major urban insect pest on elm trees in Iran. Digestion in the alimentary canal of the elm leaf beetle is facilitated by some carbohydrases which are responsible for the digestion of ...
