Immunoprecipitation of spliceosomal RNAs by antisera to galectin-1 and galectin-3 [PDF]
We have shown that galectin-1 and galectin-3 are functionally redundant splicing factors. Now we provide evidence that both galectins are directly associated with spliceosomes by analyzing RNAs and proteins of complexes immunoprecipitated by galectin-specific antisera.

Prognostic significance of endogenous adhesion/growth-regulatory lectins in lung cancer [PDF]
Objective: To determine the expression of endogenous adhesion/growth-regulatory lectins and their binding sites using labeled tissue lectins as well as the binding profile of hyaluronic acid as an approach to define new prognostic markers.

Upregulation of the Tim-3/galectin-9 pathway of T cell exhaustion in chronic hepatitis B virus infection. [PDF]
The S-type lectin galectin-9 binds to the negative regulatory molecule Tim-3 on T cells and induces their apoptotic deletion or functional inactivation.

Differentiation-dependent glycosylation of cells in squamous cell epithelia detected by a mammalian lectin [PDF]
The squamous stratified epithelia contain a proliferative (harboring mitotic activity) and a differentiating compartment. Due to the potential of protein-carbohyd rate interactions to regulate cellular activities we introduced a mammalian lectin to cyto-

Chemokines modulate glycan binding and the immunoregulatory activity of galectins
Sanjurjo et al investigate the role of galectins in immunomodulation, reporting that chemokines can control galectin immunomodulatory function through a mechanism involving galectin-chemokine binding pairs.

Galectin-1 immunofluorescent staining.
Nuclei are labeled by Hoescht stain (blue, left panels). Gall bladder neuroendocrine neoplasm demonstrates positive galectin-1 (red, middle and right top panels) immunofluorescence compared to negative control (normal canine kidney).

Growth hormone upregulates the pro-tumorigenic galectin 1 in mouse liver
Transgenic mice overexpressing growth hormone (GH) spontaneously develop liver tumors, including hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), within a year. The preneoplastic liver pathology in these mice recapitulates that observed in humans at high risk of ...

Human Galectins Induce Conversion of Dermal Fibroblasts into Myofibroblasts and Production of Extracellular Matrix: Potential Application in Tissue Engineering and Wound Repair [PDF]
Members of the galectin family of endogenous lectins are potent adhesion/growth-regulatory effectors. Their multi-functionality opens possibilities for their use in bioapplications. We studied whether human galectins induce the conversion of human dermal
