PS Dependent APP Cleavage Regulates Glucosylceramide Synthase and is Affected in Alzheimer's Disease

open access: yesCellular Physiology and Biochemistry, 2014
Background: Gangliosides were found to be associated with Alzheimer's disease (AD). Here we addressed a potential function of γ-secretase (presenilin) dependent cleavage of the amyloid-precursor-protein (APP) in the regulation of ganglioside de novo

Sialylation of campylobacter jejuni lipo-oligosaccharides: impact on phagocytosis and cytokine production in mice [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
<p>Background: Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS) is a post-infectious polyradiculoneuropathy, frequently associated with antecedent Campylobacter jejuni (C. jejuni) infection. The presence of sialic acid on C.

MALDI TIMS IMS Reveals Ganglioside Molecular Diversity within Murine S. aureus Soft Tissue Abscesses.

open access: yes, 2023
Gangliosides play important roles in innate and adaptive immunity. The high degree of structural heterogeneity results in significant variability in ganglioside expression patterns and greatly complicates linking structure and function.

Incorporation of Novel Synthetic Glycolipids in Liposomal Nanoparticles Affects Opsonization and In Vivo Clearance

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
We prepared five glycosylated liposomal nanoparticles (G‐LNPs) to investigate the role of glycosylation and protein corona in modulating the in vivo behavior of G‐LNPs. We show that IgG and complement C3 adsorption enhanced liposomal nanoparticle clearance, with IgG promoting subsequent C3 binding.

Incorporation, remodeling and re-expression of exogenous gangliosides in human cancer cell lines in vitro and in vivo [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
2004-05Human neuroblastomas and gliomas express high levels of GD2 ganglioside. Mechanisms for the re-expression of GD2 after the incorporation of an exogenous precursor structure were analyzed using a human heterophilic monoclonal antibody (mAb ...

Anti-Ganglioside Antibodies Induce Nodal and Axonal Injury via Fcγ Receptor-Mediated Inflammation

open access: yesJournal of Neuroscience, 2015
Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS) is a postinfectious autoimmune neuropathy and anti-ganglioside antibodies (Abs) are strongly associated with this disorder.

Regulation of ganglioside biosynthesis in the nervous system

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 2004
Ganglioside biosynthesis is strictly regulated by the activities of glycosyltransferases and is necessarily controlled at the levels of gene transcription and posttranslational modification.

Therapeutic effects of anti‐GM2 CAR‐T cells expressing IL‐7 and CCL19 for GM2‐positive solid cancer in xenograft model

open access: yesCancer Medicine, 2023
Background While chimeric antigen receptor (CAR)‐T cell therapy has demonstrated excellent efficacy in hematopoietic malignancies, its clinical application in solid cancers has yet to be achieved.

The gangliosides

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 1964
The results of recent studies on the complexities of gangliosides from brain, spleen, and erythrocyte stroma are described, and ganglioside nomenclature is discussed. A description of the chemistry and methods of estimation of component groups (sialic acids, hexosamine and hexoses, fatty acids, and sphingosine bases) is followed by an account of the ...

Soluble Aβ oligomers are rapidly sequestered from brain ISF in vivo and bind GM1 ganglioside on cellular membranes

open access: yesNeuron, 2014
SUMMARY Soluble Aβ oligomers contribute importantly to synaptotoxicity in Alzheimer's disease, but their dynamics in vivo remain unclear. Here, we found that soluble Aβ oligomers were sequestered from brain interstitial fluid onto brain membranes much ...
