The Gut–Heart Axis in Systemic Sclerosis: Evidence From a Large Prospective Early Disease Cohort

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective Cardiac involvement significantly impacts prognosis in systemic sclerosis (SSc), highlighting the need for early risk stratification. Gastrointestinal (GI) symptoms are common and often manifest early. Emerging data suggest a link between GI and cardiac manifestations, possibly through shared mechanisms like dysautonomia.

Simulated Gastrointestinal Digestion

open access: yes, 2020
The behavior of malondialdehyde and its whey protein adducts in aqueous buffer and fully hydrogenated coconut oil-in-water emulsions stabilized by Tween 20 or by whey protein was studied during in vitro gastrointestinal digestion.

Association of Elevated Platelets and C‐Reactive Protein With Severe Disease and Poor Survival in Systemic Sclerosis

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective Elevated C‐reactive protein (CRP) levels in systemic sclerosis (SSc) have been linked with severe disease and worse survival, but the role of platelet levels remains unclear. This study examined whether elevated platelet levels, CRP levels, or both are associated with disease severity, progression, and survival in SSc.

Anaerobic digestion of catering wastes

open access: yes, 2008
This research addresses gaps in current knowledge regarding process issues associatedwith long term semi-continuous digestion of food waste as a sole substrate, and the role oftrace elements and biomass retention in digestion of food wastes.Source ...

Survival Outcomes in Older Adults with Axial Spondyloarthritis and Concomitant Cancer

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, Accepted Article.
Objective The objective of this study was to determine survival outcomes in older adults with axial spondyloarthritis (axSpA) and concomitant cancer. Methods We conducted a population‐based study using Medicare claims data linked to Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results data to determine overall survival (OS) and cancer‐specific survival (CSS) in

Digesting Digestion: An Educational Laboratory to Teach Students about Enzymes and the Gastrointestinal Tract

open access: yesJournal of Chemical Education, 2023
Digestion is a fundamentally important process for an individual's life. However, the physical process of digestion is hidden inside the body, making it challenging to understand and a particularly difficult topic for students to learn in the classroom.

Printed Integrated Logic Circuits Based on Chitosan‐Gated Organic Transistors for Future Edible Systems

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Edible electronics needs integrated logic circuits for computation and control. This work presents a potentially edible printed chitosan‐gated transistor with a design optimized for integration in circuits. Its implementation in integrated logic gates and circuits operating at low voltage (0.7 V) is demonstrated, as well as the compatibility with an ...

Lignin Mimicking Protein Methylation Augments the Efficacy of FOLFOX Chemotherapy by Anchoring Thymidylate Synthase

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Lignin‐mimicking protein methylation can enhance the efficacy and mitigate the toxicity of the classic FOLFOX chemotherapy regimen. ABSTRACT FOLFOX has served as the standard chemotherapy regimen for advanced stages, specifically in the treatment of pancreatic, colorectal, and bladder cancers.
