Soft Robotic Excretory Care Simulator for Nursing Education: Functional and Perceptual Biomimetics Approach

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
A soft robotic simulator is developed to replicate the digital removal of feces (DRF), a sensitive yet essential nursing procedure. Integrating soft actuators, sensors, and a realistic rectal model, the simulator balances functional fidelity with perceptual realism. Engineering evaluations and nurse feedback confirm its potential to enhance training in

Role of fat hydrolysis in regulating glucagon-like Peptide-1 secretion [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Context: Glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) is produced by specialized cells in the gut and secreted in response to carbohydrates and lipids. The mechanisms regulating fat-stimulated GLP-1 release have, however, not been clarified in detail.

A Pentaradial and Bilateral Combined Photoreception System in the Sea Cucumber is Mediated by a Blue Light‐Sensitive R‐Opsin

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The sea cucumber Holothuria leucospilota detects blue and adjacent wavelengths of light via an r‐opsin with a maximum absorption at 459 nm. In the oral tentacles, papillae, and tube feet, distinct light‐sensing structures with specialized morphologies are formed, constituting a unique pentaradial and bilateral combined photoreception system.

Strategies for stable anaerobic digestion of vegetable waste [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
International trade and the market demand for pre-prepared agricultural produce is not only increasing the total quantity of waste agricultural biomass but also centralising its availability, making it potentially useful for energy production.

Metabolism of 3-[5'-deoxy-5'-(dimethylarsinoyl)-β-ribofuranosyloxy]-2-hydroxypropylene glycol in an artificial digestive system

open access: yesHeliyon, 2019
Seaweeds contain large amounts of organoarsenic compounds, mostly arsenosugars (AsSug) and arsenolipids (AsLipid). AsSug is mainly metabolized into dimethylarsinic acid (DMAV) in humans. However, this metabolic process is not well understood.

Integrating Genetics With Epidemiological Measurements Identifies Burden QTLs of Inflammatory Bowel Disease across 20 Countries

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The burden quantitative trait locus (bQTL) analysis integrates epidemiological data from GBD study with genotype of 2 621 978 SNPs from 2414 individuals in 1000 Genomes Project across 20 countries. rs7633471 shows the strongest effect that each increase in centi‐allele frequency of the allele C associated with 10.00 decrease of age‐standardized ...

Effect of thermal treatment on the in vivo digestion characteristics and antioxidant activity of PPI-glucose

open access: yes四川大学学报. 自然科学版, 2017
Thermal sterilization is widely adopted in peanut protein beverage processing, and may cause Maillard reaction (MR). This paper was designed to research the effect of thermal sterilization induced MR on the subsequent simulated gastrointestinal digestion.

Selenium Nanoparticles Selectively Target KRAS G13D to Inhibit Colorectal Cancer

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The mechanisms of SeNPs therapy in cancer treatment, encompass three parallel actions: (1) seleno‐amino acids, key metabolites, upregulate GPX2 expression, thereby inhibiting tumor metastasis via the GPX2‐HIF1α‐VEGF signaling pathway; (2) selenite (SeO32−), an inorganic metabolite, forms hydrogen bonds with amino acid residues 13–17 of the KRAS G13D ...
