Extraction of sugar from a gel consisting of agar, sugar and water

Chemical Engineering Science, 1962
Abstract A slab of a gel consisting of agar, sugar and water was extracted with a solution of sugar in water of smaller sugar concentration than the gel. The flow rate of the solution, the temperature and the concentration level were varied. The experimental results show that, for the circumstances chosen, the influence of the flow rate on the rate ...

Multi-DOF device for soft micromanipulation consisting of soft gel actuator elements

Proceedings 1999 IEEE International Conference on Robotics and Automation (Cat. No.99CH36288C), 2003
Presents a multi-degree-of-freedom (DOF) micro motion device developed using a soft gel actuator, ICPF. It is superior to conventional micromanipulators in softness and compactness. 3-DOF motion was realized by a parallel mechanism with 4 ICPF actuators, and 6-DOF motion was created by a 3-actuator mechanism. The 3-DOF device had a maximum displacement

(Invited) Thixotropic Gel Electrolyte Consisting of Imogolite and Ionic Liquid

ECS Meeting Abstracts, 2018
Electrolytes are fundamental materials that have been used in various industrial fields, for example, in batteries. Liquid electrolytes, though widely used, lack safety and moldability because of the inclusion of organic solvents and the inherent fluidity.

Anion responsive molecular valve consisting of poly(4-vinylpyridine) gel

Sensors and Actuators B: Chemical, 2013
Abstract An anion responsive molecular valve comprised of poly(4-vinylpyridine) gel-coated Au mesh was developed. At pH 3 the valve closed when the concentration of anions such as Cl−, ClO4−, SCN−, and HSO4− was low, whereas automatically opened upon an increase in the concentration of anion due to collapse of the gel.

Electroviscoelastic effect of polymeric composites consisting of polyelectrolyte particles and polymer gel

Journal of Materials Science, 1993
The dynamic viscoelasticity of polymeric composites consisting of silicone gel and polymethacrylic acid cobalt(II) salt (PMACo) particles was studied in d.c. electric fields. It was measured by applying sinusoidally varying shear strain or compressive strain to the composites.

A biochemo-mechanical system consisting of polymer gels with immobilized glucose dehydrogenase

Polymer Gels and Networks, 1997
Abstract An attempt was made to construct a biochemo-mechanical system via the physical entrapment of glucose dehydrogenase (GDH) within a gel consisting of a crosslinked copolymer of N-isopropylacrylamide and acrylic acid. We observed that the gel with the immobilized GDH shrank when glucose as the substrate was added into an outer medium together ...

Thermosensitive solutions and gels consisting of poly(vinyl alcohol) and sodium silicate

Materials Letters, 2007
We have investigated the transparency for visible light of a poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) aqueous solution in the presence of sodium silicates (SS). The transparency of the aqueous solution dramatically changed by varying temperature despite that neither aqueous solutions of PVA nor SS is sensitive to temperature.

A thermodynamically consistent and numerically stable formulation for the description of diffusion in polymeric gels

PAMM, 2014
AbstractThis work proposes a stable equal‐order element formulation for polymeric gels at finite deformations. From the numerical point of view the description of flow in incompressible elastic media such as gels leads to singularities in the coupled system of equations of the corresponding finite element discretization unless certain requirements are ...

Preparation of physical gel consisting of syndiotactic polystyrene and poly(ethylene glycol)

Polymer, 2005
Abstract Syndiotactic polystyrene (s-PS) was blended with poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) in 1,2-dichloroethane (DCE) solvent. The mixture became a homogeneous solution at 155 °C depending on the composition ratio of PEG to DCE. When the solution was cooled at the rate of 5 °C/min to room temperature, a thermoreversible gelation was occurred.

A self consistent normalized calibration protocol for three dimensional magnetic resonance gel dosimetry

Magnetic Resonance Imaging, 2002
In a clinical setting, mixed and inconsistent results have been reported using Magnetic Resonance Relaxation imaging of irradiated aqueous polymeric gels as a three-dimensional dosimeter, for dose verification of conformal radiation therapy. The problems are attributed to the difficulty of identifying an accurate dose calibration protocol for each ...
