Cell wall target fragment discovery using a low‐cost, minimal fragment library

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
LoCoFrag100 is a fragment library made up of 100 different compounds. Similarity between the fragments is minimized and 10 different fragments are mixed into a single cocktail, which is soaked to protein crystals. These crystals are analysed by X‐ray crystallography, revealing the binding modes of the bound fragment ligands.

Pvr expression regulators in equilibrium signal control and maintenance of Drosophila blood progenitors. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Blood progenitors within the lymph gland, a larval organ that supports hematopoiesis in Drosophila melanogaster, are maintained by integrating signals emanating from niche-like cells and those from differentiating blood cells.

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

Spatiotemporal expression patterns of cytosolic AtHSP90-2 in Arabidopsis seedlings

open access: yesPlant Signaling & Behavior, 2023
Heat shock protein AtHSP90–2 is one of the three constitutive cytosolic HSP90s of Arabidopsis thaliana, which are highly homologous and show mild expression activation in response to stressful impacts.

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

NELF potentiates gene transcription in the Drosophila embryo. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2010
A hallmark of genes that are subject to developmental regulation of transcriptional elongation is association of the negative elongation factor NELF with the paused RNA polymerase complex.

Genomic Analysis of Drosophila Neuronal Remodeling: A Role for the RNA-Binding Protein Boule as a Negative Regulator of Axon Pruning [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Drosophila mushroom body (MB) {gamma} neurons undergo axon pruning during metamorphosis through a process of localized degeneration of specific axon branches.

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Sequential Response to Multiple Developmental Network Circuits Encoded in an Intronic cis-Regulatory Module of Sea Urchin hox11/13b

open access: yesCell Reports, 2017
Summary: Gene expression in different spatial domains is often controlled by separate cis-regulatory modules (CRMs), but regulatory states determining CRM activity are not only distinct in space, they also change continuously during developmental time ...
