Phase-noise induced limitations on cooling and coherent evolution in opto-mechanical systems

open access: yes, 2009
We present a detailed theoretical discussion of the effects of ubiquitous laser noise on cooling and the coherent dynamics in opto-mechanical systems. Phase fluctuations of the driving laser induce modulations of the linearized opto-mechanical coupling ...

Pathogenic Germline PALB2 and RAD50 Variants in Patients With Relapsed Ewing Sarcoma

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Approximately 10% of patients with Ewing sarcoma (EwS) have pathogenic germline variants. Here, we report two cases: first, a novel germline pathogenic variant in partner and localizer of BRCA2 (PALB2) in a patient with a late EwS relapse. Its impact on homologous recombination is demonstrated, and breast cancer risk is discussed.

Partial optomechanical refrigeration via multi-mode cold-damping feedback

open access: yes, 2019
We provide a fully analytical treatment for the partial refrigeration of the thermal motion of a quantum mechanical resonator under the action of feedback.

Ensemble-induced strong light-matter coupling of a single quantum emitter

open access: yes, 2020
We discuss a technique to strongly couple a single target quantum emitter to a cavity mode, which is enabled by virtual excitations of a nearby mesoscopic ensemble of emitters. A collective coupling of the latter to both the cavity and the target emitter

Gene-Gene and Gene-Environment Interactions in Mild Hyperhomocysteinemia [PDF]

open access: yesPathophysiology of Haemostasis and Thrombosis, 2003
Mild/moderate hyperhomocysteinemia (HHcy), a highly prevalent condition, is independently associated with an increased risk of arterial and venous thromboembolic diseases. Early reports of the association of mild/moderate HHcy with juvenile venous thromboembolism have shown familiarity for HHcy in relatives of index cases with thrombosis.

Improved Outcomes for Older Children, Adolescents, and Young Adults With Neuroblastoma in the Post‐Immunotherapy Era: An Updated Report From the International Neuroblastoma Risk Group

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background We describe clinical and biologic characteristics of neuroblastoma in older children, adolescents, and young adults (OCAYA); describe survival outcomes in the post‐immunotherapy era; and identify if there is an age cut‐off that best discriminates outcomes.

Optomechanics with molecules in a strongly pumped ring cavity

open access: yes, 2010
Cavity cooling of an atom works best on a cyclic optical transition in the strong coupling regime near resonance, where small cavity photon numbers suffice for trapping and cooling.
