Genetic coding theory: Multiple mitochondrial genetic codes
International Journal of Quantum Chemistry, 1984The generalized genetic code is applied to alternative codings recently derived from studies of mitochondrial protein synthesis. It is argued that mitochondrial protein synthesis is comprised of a class of biological contexts, rather than a single biological context, and that there exist, therefore, multiple mitochondrial genetic codes.
