Rab14 regulates the transport of human papillomavirus to the trans‐Golgi network for infectious cell entry

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals that the small GTPase Rab14 is necessary for human papillomavirus (HPV) infection and plays an essential role in the transport of virions to the trans‐Golgi network (TGN). HPV in the early endosome (EE), which harbors GTP‐bound Rab14, is transported to the TGN through the switch of Rab14 from its GTP‐bound to GDP‐bound form.

Plant basal resistance: genetics, biochemistry, and impacts on plant-biotic interactions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Basal resistance depends largely on a diverse range of defence mechanisms that become active upon attack by pathogens or insects. These mechanisms range from rapid stomatal closure and production of reactive oxygen species, to callose deposition and ...

Understanding and predicting synthetic lethal genetic interactions in Saccharomyces cerevisiae using domain genetic interactions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Background Synthetic lethal genetic interactions among proteins have been widely used to define functional relationships between proteins and pathways. However, the molecular mechanism of synthetic lethal genetic interactions is still unclear.

Degradation mechanism of the von Willebrand factor A2 domain by nattokinase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Nattokinase, a natto‐derived protease, exhibits potent antithrombotic effects. This study demonstrates that nattokinase directly cleaves the von Willebrand factor (vWF) A2 domain in vitro. Unlike the native regulator ADAMTS13, nattokinase degrades folded vWF independently of shear stress.

Systematic exploration of synergistic drug pairs

open access: yesMolecular Systems Biology, 2011
Drug synergy allows a therapeutic effect to be achieved with lower doses of component drugs. Drug synergy can result when drugs target the products of genes that act in parallel pathways (‘specific synergy’).

Integrative analysis of large-scale loss-of-function screens identifies robust cancer-associated genetic interactions

open access: yeseLife, 2020
Genetic interactions, including synthetic lethal effects, can now be systematically identified in cancer cell lines using high-throughput genetic perturbation screens.

A new direction for farm animal genetic resources [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
In September 2007, the International Technical Conference on Animal Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture was held in Interlaken, Switzerland. Two important documents aiming at preventing the genetic erosion of farm animal biodiversity and promoting

Microbiome−host proteostasis crosstalk—An emerging perspective on mechanisms and interventions toward healthy longevity

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Proteostasis and the gut microbiota play a key role in shaping host physiology. Microbiota‐derived metabolites, vitamins, and RNA modulate host proteostasis. Findings from model systems, including C. elegans, indicate microbes can either stabilize or disrupt host proteostasis.

Genetic screen of the yeast environmental stress response dynamics uncovers distinct regulatory phases

open access: yesMolecular Systems Biology, 2019
Cells respond to environmental fluctuations by regulating multiple transcriptional programs. This response can be studied by measuring the effect of environmental changes on the transcriptome or the proteome of the cell at the end of the response ...

Detecting high-order interactions of single nucleotide polymorphisms using genetic programming [PDF]

open access: yes
Motivation: Not individual single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs), but high-order interactions of SNPs are assumed to be responsible for complex diseases such as cancer. Therefore, one of the major goals of genetic association studies concerned with such
