Patients with diffuse large B-cell lymphoma of germinal center origin with BCL2 translocations have poor outcome, irrespective of MYC status: a report from an International DLBCL rituximab-CHOP Consortium Program Study

open access: yesHaematologica, 2013
Diffuse large B-cell lymphoma can be classified by gene expression profiling into germinal center and activated B-cell subtypes with different prognoses after rituximab-CHOP.

Slow delivery immunization enhances HIV neutralizing antibody and germinal center responses via modulation of immunodominance

open access: yesbioRxiv, 2018
The observation that humans can produce broadly neutralizing antibodies (bnAbs) against HIV-1 has generated enthusiasm about the potential for a bnAb vaccine against HIV-1.

Reciprocal control of viral infection and phosphoinositide dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Phosphoinositides, although scarce, regulate key cellular processes, including membrane dynamics and signaling. Viruses exploit these lipids to support their entry, replication, assembly, and egress. The central role of phosphoinositides in infection highlights phosphoinositide metabolism as a promising antiviral target.

Modelling the affinity maturation of B lymphocytes in the germinal centre [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
This study involved the successful development of a computer model to simulate the affinity maturation of B lymphocytes in the germinal centre in 3-D because certain behavioural aspects cannot currently be examined experimentally.

The Transcriptional Regulation of Germinal Center Formation

open access: yesFrontiers in Immunology, 2018
Germinal centers (GCs) are essential structures of the humoral immune response, which form in the periphery in response to T cell dependent antigens. During the GC reaction, B cells undergo critical differentiation steps, which ultimately lead to the ...

Phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase as a target of pathogens—friend or foe?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.

A novel allele for inducible Cre expression in germinal center B cells [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
The germinal center reaction is essential for efficient humoral immunity, but it can also give rise to B cell lymphomas. Cre/loxP-mediated conditional gene knock-out or knock-in can be used for the genetic manipulation of germinal center B cells in vivo.

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Lineage tree analysis of immunoglobulin variable-region gene mutations in autoimmune diseases: chronic activation, normal selection [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Autoimmune diseases show high diversity in the affected organs, clinical manifestations and disease dynamics. Yet they all share common features, such as the ectopic germinal centers found in many affected tissues.

Sustained antigen delivery improves germinal center reaction and increases antibody responses in neonatal mice

open access: yesnpj Vaccines
Neonates and young infants are known to have limited responses to pediatric vaccines due to reduced germinal center formation. Extended vaccine antigen dosing was previously shown to expand germinal center formation and improve humoral responses in adult
