Follicular lymphomas of germinal center (B- or T-cell) origin [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Follicular lymphomas of germinal center (B- or T-cell) origin include follicular lymphoma (FL), nodular lymphocyte predominant Hodgkin lymphoma (NLPHL), and angioimmunoblastic T-cell lymphoma (AITL).Other lymphomas of presumed follicular origin comprise ...

Compartments and Connections Within the Germinal Center

open access: yesFrontiers in Immunology, 2021
Protective high affinity antibody responses emerge through an orchestrated developmental process that occurs in germinal centers (GCs). While GCs have been appreciated since 1930, a wealth of recent progress provides new insights into the molecular and ...

Spontaneous germinal centers and autoimmunity [PDF]

open access: yesAutoimmunity, 2017
Germinal centers (GCs) are dynamic microenvironments that form in the secondary lymphoid organs and generate somatically mutated high-affinity antibodies necessary to establish an effective humoral immune response. Tight regulation of GC responses is critical for maintaining self-tolerance.

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Reduced germinal center response in IL-21R-/- mice.

open access: yes, 2015
Mice were infected intranasally with 1,000 pfu of MHV68-H2bYFP and splenocytes were harvested at the indicated time points. (A) Representative flow plots showing reduced germinal center B cells in IL-21R-/- mice. Flow plots were gated on CD3-, CD4-, CD8-,

Critical roles of mTOR Complex 1 and 2 for T follicular helper cell differentiation and germinal center responses

open access: yeseLife, 2016
T follicular helper (Tfh) cells play critical roles for germinal center responses and effective humoral immunity. We report here that mTOR in CD4 T cells is essential for Tfh differentiation.

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

An analysis of B cell selection mechanisms in germinal centres

open access: yes, 2005
Affinity maturation of antibodies during immune responses is achieved by multiple rounds of somatic hypermutation and subsequent preferential selection of those B cells that express B cell receptors with improved binding characteristics for the antigen ...

MicroRNA regulation of the germinal center response [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
The generation of germinal centers (GCs) is a hallmark feature of the adaptive immune response, resulting in the production of high-affinity antibodies that neutralize pathogens and confer protection upon reinfection.

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.
