Therapeutic potential of GHSR-1A antagonism in alcohol dependence, a review
Life Sciences, 2022Growth hormone secretagogue receptor type 1A (GHSR-1A) is a functional receptor of orexigenic peptide ghrelin and is highly expressed in mesolimbic dopaminergic systems that regulate incentive value of artificial reward in substance abuse. Interestingly, GHSR-1A has also shown ligand-independent constitutive activity.

Molecular cloning and analysis of the ghrelin/GHSR system in Xenopus tropicalis
General and Comparative Endocrinology, 2023Ghrelin is a gut-derived peptide with several physiological functions, including feeding, gastrointestinal motility, and hormonal secretion. Recently, a host defense peptide, liver-expressed antimicrobial peptide-2 (LEAP2), was reported as an endogenous antagonist of growth hormone secretagogue receptor (GHS-R).

LEAP2 is a more conserved ligand than ghrelin for fish GHSRs
Biochimie, 2022ABSTRACTRecently, liver-expressed antimicrobial peptide 2 (LEAP2) was identified as an endogenous competitive antagonist and an inverse agonist of the ghrelin receptor GHSR. However, its functions in lower vertebrates are not well understood. Our recent study demonstrated that both LEAP2 and ghrelin are functional towards a fish GHSR from Latimeria ...

The new mechanism of Ghrelin/GHSR-1a on autophagy regulation
Peptides, 2020Autophagy is associated with several diseases. In recent years, accumulating evidence has suggested that ghrelin pathway exerts a protective effect by regulating autophagy. This review aims to assess the potential role and use of ghrelin as a new treatment for obesity, cardiovascular diseases, nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NFALD), neurodegenerative

Investigation of GHSR and GHRL Methylation in Colorectal Cancer
Epigenomics, 2018To investigate GHSR and GHRL methylation in 73 pairs of colorectal cancer (CRC) tissues and healthy adjacent mucosa.Methylation was assessed with methylation-sensitive high-resolution melting.GHSR was significantly hypermethylated in CRC tissues than in healthy mucosa (p

Investigation of GHSR methylation levels in thymomas from patients with Myasthenia Gravis
Gene, 2020Hypermethylation of the growth hormone secretagogue receptor gene (GHSR) is increasingly observed in human cancers, suggesting that it could represent a pan-cancer biomarker of clinical interest. However, little is still known concerning GHSR methylation levels in thymic epithelial tumors, and particularly in thymomas from patients with Myasthenia ...

Associations of GHSR gene polymorphisms with chicken growth and carcass traits [PDF]
Ghrelin receptor (GHSR), or growth hormone secretagogue receptor, modulates many physiological effects by binding to its ligand and therefore is a candidate gene for chicken production performance. In this study, five polymorphisms (four SNP and a 'GGTACA' indel) of GHSR gene were genotyped in a F(2) full sib chicken population to investigate their ...

The protective effects of Ghrelin/GHSR on hippocampal neurogenesis in CUMS mice
Neuropharmacology, 2019Ghrelin is an orexigenic hormone that also plays an important role in mood disorders. Our previous studies demonstrated that ghrelin administration could protect against depression-like behaviors of chronic unpredictable mild stress (CUMS) in rodents. However, the mechanism related to the effect of ghrelin on CUMS mice has yet to be revealed.

Identification of piperazine-bisamide GHSR antagonists for the treatment of obesity
Bioorganic & Medicinal Chemistry Letters, 2010Piperazine-bisamide analogs were discovered as partial agonists of human growth hormone secretagogue receptor (GHSR) in a high throughput screen. The partial agonists were optimized for potency and converted into antagonists through structure-activity relationship (SAR) studies.
