The median eminence (ME), located at the base of the hypothalamus, is an essential centre of information exchange between the brain and the pituitary. We and others previously showed that mutations and duplications affecting the transcription factor SOX3/

Broflanilide is a novel pesticide that can antagonize ion channels and disrupt neurotransmitter systems in the brain. Zebrafish larvae were exposed to either 0, 1 or 10- µg/L broflanilide in the water for a period of 7 days during early development.

Developmental and Epileptic Encephalopathy due to Biallelic Pathogenic Variants in PIGM
ABSTRACT Objective PIGM encodes a critical enzyme in the glycosylphosphatidylinositol (GPI)‐anchor biosynthesis pathway. While promoter‐region mutations in PIGM have been associated with a relatively mild phenotype characterized by portal vein thrombosis and absence seizures, recent evidence suggests that coding‐region mutations result in a more severe

A Depolarizing Leak in Sodium Bicarbonate Cotransporter NBCe1 Causes Brain Edema
ABSTRACT Objectives SLC4A4 encodes electrogenic sodium bicarbonate cotransporter NBCe1, prominently expressed in kidney and brain. Recessive loss‐of‐function variants in SLC4A4 cause proximal renal tubular acidosis, no brain edema. In the brain, NBCe1 is expressed by astrocytes, where it regulates pH and mediates astrocyte volume changes.

The blood–brain barrier (BBB) of Drosophila comprises a thin epithelial layer of subperineural glia (SPG), which ensheath the nerve cord and insulate it against the potassium-rich hemolymph by forming intercellular septate junctions (SJs). Previously, we

ABSTRACT Background X‐linked adrenoleukodystrophy (X‐ALD) is a neurometabolic disorder caused by pathogenic variants in ABCD1, leading to slowly progressive spinal cord disease in nearly all affected men. Sensitive biomarkers to quantify disease severity and predict progression are needed for clinical care and trial design.

Predictive Ability of Plasma p‐tau217 for β‐Amyloid Status: A Prospective Multicenter Study
ABSTRACT Objective Plasma tau phosphorylated at threonine 217 (p‐tau217) measured with fully automated platforms has shown high accuracy for Alzheimer's disease (AD) diagnosis, but real‐world multicenter data remain limited. We aimed to validate the diagnostic performance of p‐tau217 for identifying AD pathology in a real‐world multicenter cohort ...

Microglia Regulate Pruning of Specialized Synapses in the Auditory Brainstem
The assembly of uniquely organized sound localization circuits in the brainstem requires precise developmental mechanisms. Glial cells have been shown to shape synaptic connections in the retinogeniculate system during development, but their ...
