Proteomic Research of Molecular Defects in Globozoospermia
PROTEOMICS – Clinical Applications, 2019AbstractGlobozoospermia is a form of teratozoospermia characterized by round‐headed spermatozoa and lack of acrosome. These spermatozoa cannot penetrate the zona pellucida of the oocyte, resulting in unsuccessful fertilization and infertility. When intracytoplasmic sperm injection is performed, the fertilization rate tends to be low.

Globozoospermia (Round-Headed Human Spermatozoa)
Dermatology, 1989Round-headed human spermatozoa (also called globozoospermia) are characterized by the absence of acrosomes and postacrosomal structures of the spermatozoa causing an atypical roundish shape of the head. A typical case of round-headed human spermatozoa (total globozoospermia) is presented and the literature concerning the morphological and biochemical ...

[Globozoospermia syndrome: an update].
Zhonghua nan ke xue = National journal of andrology, 2011Globozoospermia syndrome is a rare teratozoospermia, with an incidence of less than 0.1%. It is characterized by round sperm head, absence of acrosome, and messy sperm body and tail, but without other special clinical features. The absence of acrosome could reduce the activation ability of oocytes, and consequently decrease their fertilization ability.

Molecular cytogenetic and genetic aspects of globozoospermia: a review
Andrologia, 2012Infertility is estimated to affect up to 15% of couples of reproductive age. Among the male factors, globozoospermia (also called round-headed sperm syndrome) is a rare type of teratozoospermia accounting for

[Fertilizing ability, cleavage potential and inheritance risk of globozoospermia].
Zhonghua yi xue za zhi, 2011To explore the fertilizing ability, cleavage potential and inheritance risks of globozoospermia.A globozoospermic patient was diagnosed by sperm morphological staining and transmission electron microscope. From his wife the investigators obtained 26 oocytes in which 6 oocytes were donated and the other 19 (in 20) MII oocytes injected into 19 round ...

[Molecular genetics of globozoospermia: an update].
Zhonghua nan ke xue = National journal of andrology, 2012Globozoospermia, as a severe teratozoospermia caused by gene mutations, is a rare congenital disease with main clinical manifestations of the round head of sperm and abnormality or absence of acrosome, and its precise mechanism is not yet clear. Studies show that the pathogenic genes associated with globozoospermia include SPATA16, PICK1, GOPC, Hrb ...

[DPY19L2 gene and globozoospermia: an update].
Zhonghua nan ke xue = National journal of andrology, 2013Globozoospermia is a severe teratozoospermia, and the cases with 100% round-headed sperm are rare clinically. Globozoospermia is generally characterized by absence or abnormality of acrosome, accompanied by round-headed sperm with deranged midpiece and tails.
