This study presents heparin‐derived nanoparticles (HP‐NPs) as a novel precision medicine platform that combines therapeutic and delivery functions. HP‐NPs target drug‐resistant glioblastoma stem cells, reprogramming them into a drug‐sensitive phenotype and significantly reducing tumor progression.

Lectin Staining of Microvascular Glycocalyx in Microfluidic Cancer Cell Extravasation Assays
The endothelial glycocalyx forms the inner-most lining of human microvasculature. It ensures the physiological function of blood vessels and plays a crucial role in the occurrence and progression of microvascular diseases.

Multi-scale interaction of flow and the artery wall [PDF]
We discuss, from the perspective of basic science, the physical and biological processes which underlie atherosclerotic (plaque) initiation at the vascular endothelium, identifying their widely separated spatial and temporal scales which participate.

Endothelial glycocalyx shields the interaction of SARS-CoV-2 spike protein with ACE2 receptors
Endothelial cells (ECs) play a crucial role in the development and propagation of the severe COVID-19 stage as well as multiorgan dysfunction. It remains, however, controversial whether COVID-19-induced endothelial injury is caused directly by the ...

PIEZO Force Sensing in Vascular Biology: An Explosion of New Knowledge, Concepts and Opportunity
Knowledge of the remarkable mechanical force sensing and electrically transducing PIEZO1 and PIEZO2 channels is discussed across vascular biology and its cell types from the embryonic to adult stages in health, disease and old age. How the channels work, relate to other factors and signal for tissue responses to mechanical forces is debated.

Injury to the Endothelial Glycocalyx in Critically Ill Patients with COVID-19
Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) causes the so-called coronavirus disease (COVID-19), which is characterized by a broad spectrum of clinical presentations ranging from asymptomatic patients to critically ill individuals with a

Interaction of Nucleic Acids with the Glycocalyx [PDF]
Mammalian cells resist the uptake of nucleic acids. The lipid bilayer of the plasma membrane presents one barrier. Here, we report on a second physicochemical barrier for uptake. To create a sensitive probe for nucleic acid-cell interactions, we synthesized fluorescent conjugates in which lipids are linked to DNA oligonucleotides.

Microfluidic lab-on-a-chip (LOC) devices allow the study of blood-brain barrier (BBB) properties in dynamic conditions. We studied a BBB model, consisting of human endothelial cells derived from hematopoietic stem cells in co-culture with brain pericytes,
