Redefining Therapies for Drug‐Resistant Tuberculosis: Synergistic Effects of Antimicrobial Peptides, Nanotechnology, and Computational Design

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Antimicrobial peptide (AMP)‐loaded nanocarriers provide a multifunctional strategy to combat drug‐resistant Mycobacterium tuberculosis. By enhancing intracellular delivery, bypassing efflux pumps, and disrupting bacterial membranes, this platform restores phagolysosome fusion and macrophage function.

Bacteria‐Responsive Nanostructured Drug Delivery Systems for Targeted Antimicrobial Therapy

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Bacteria‐responsive nanocarriers are designed to release antimicrobials only in the presence of infection‐specific cues. This selective activation ensures drug release precisely at the site of infection, avoiding premature or indiscriminate release, and enhancing efficacy.

Kelvin Probe Force Microscopy in Bionanotechnology: Current Advances and Future Perspectives

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Kelvin probe force microscopy (KPFM) enables the nanoscale mapping of electrostatic surface potentials. While widely applied in materials science, its use in biological systems remains emerging. This review presents recent advances in KPFM applied to biological samples and provides a critical perspective on current limitations and future directions for

Role of Sterylglucosidase 1 (Sgl1) on the pathogenicity of Cryptococcus neoformans: potential applications for vaccine development

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2015
Cryptococcosis caused by C. neoformans and C. gattii affects a large population and is a cause of significant morbidity and mortality. Despite its public health burden, there are currently no vaccines against cryptococcosis and new strategies against ...

Studying Macromolecular Composition in Cell–Cell Interfaces Using 3D Membrane Reconstitution Systems

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A comprehensive understanding of the interactions between proteins, lipids and glycocalyx components at the immune synapse is still lacking. Here, an artificial and a semi‐artificial model contact system were established to reconstitute the cell‐cell contact in 3D. The model systems enable the examination of macromolecule enrichment or depletion at the

Water-soluble trehalose glycolipids show superior Mincle binding and signaling but impaired phagocytosis and IL-1β production

open access: yesFrontiers in Molecular Biosciences, 2022
The tremendous potential of trehalose glycolipids as vaccine adjuvants has incentivized the study of how the structures of these ligands relate to their Mincle-mediated agonist activities.

Efficacy and Safety of a Revised Gastric Peroral Endoscopic Myo-Neurotomy Procedure for Bariatric Endoscopy in a Porcine Model. [PDF]

open access: yesDEN Open
ABSTRACT Background Endoscopic sleeve gastroplasty is a minimally invasive and effective treatment for obesity, although gastric mucosa folding and subsequent reduced visibility of the gastric lining raise concerns for some patients. This study evaluates the safety and efficacy of a revised peroral endoscopic myo‐neurotomy (R‐POEM‐N) technique using a ...

One‐Step Glycoengineering of NK Cells With High‐Affinity Siglec Ligands for Cancer Immunotherapy

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study develops an engineered NmCSS enzyme with improved activity for bulky group modified sialic acids, enabling efficient synthesis of structurally diverse sialoside analogs in a single step. Glycan microarray screening identified Siglec high‐affinity ligands, which were incorporated onto natural killer (NK) cells via a one‐pot enzymatic system ...

Associations Between Pepsinogen Levels and Various Health Indicators in a Healthy Guangzhou Population. [PDF]

open access: yesJGH Open
ABSTRACT Background This study investigates the determinants of pepsinogen (PG) levels in a healthy population from Guangzhou, China, aiming to refine its reference interval for better clinical assessment. Methods We analyzed data from 1341 healthy participants to explore the relationship between PG levels and potential influencing factors, including ...
