Evaluating Prescriber Adherence to Guideline-Based Treatment Pathways of a Newly Initiated Antimicrobial Stewardship Program at a Rehabilitation Hospital [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Background: Inappropriate use of antimicrobials in the healthcare setting is associated with consequences including antimicrobial resistance, Clostridium difficile infection (CDI), adverse drug reactions, and increased healthcare costs.

Protective Role of Polydatin Against Vancomycin‐Induced Lung Toxicity via Oxidative Stress, Inflammation, Endoplasmic Reticulum Stress, Apoptosis, and Ferroptosis Pathways

open access: yesJournal of Applied Toxicology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This study aimed to evaluate whether polydatin (Poly) could eliminate the harmful effects of vancomycin (VCM) on the lungs of rats. Rats were administered VCM (200 mg/kg) and Poly (50 mg/kg), both separately and in combination, for a duration of 7 days.

Hybrid Antibiotics Based on Azithromycin and Glycopeptides: Synthesis and Antibacterial Activity

open access: yesАнтибиотики и Химиотерапия, 2020
A series of hybrid antibiotics on the basis of azithromycin and glycopeptides with the glycopeptide molecule attached via the aminoalkylcarbamoyl spacer to 11-position of the macrolide was synthesized.

Heterogeneous A40926 Self-Resistance Profile in Nonomuraea gerenzanensis Population Informs Strain Improvement

open access: yesFermentation, 2021
Nonomuraea gerenzanensis ATCC 39727 produces the glycopeptide antibiotic A40926, which is the natural precursor of the semi-synthetic, last-resort drug dalbavancin. To reduce the cost of dalbavancin production, it is mandatory to improve the productivity

Effect of daptomycin and vancomycin on Staphylococcus epidermidis biofilms: An in vitro assessment using fluorescence in situ hybridization [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Colonization of in-dwelling catheters by microbial biofilms is a major concern in patient health eventually leading to catheter-related blood stream infections.

Evaluation of FilmArray Multiplex PCR Test Results in Bloodstream Infections in Oncological Patients

open access: yesJournal of Clinical Laboratory Analysis, EarlyView.
In this study conducted at an oncology hospital, BCID2 panel results for the rapid identification of microorganisms and resistance genes in positive blood culture samples were compared with conventional culture methods. The BCID2 panel provided faster results and showed a high correlation with traditional methods.

Prevalence of gram-negative infections in cervico-facial sepsis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Magister Chirurgiae Dentium (MChD)In cervico-facial sepsis a substantial proportion of organisms are normally gram-negative staining of which the majority are anaerobes (Boyanova 2006 and Sanchez 2010).

Differential proteomic analysis highlights metabolic strategies associated with balhimycin production in Amycolatopsis balhimycina chemostat cultivations [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Background Proteomics was recently used to reveal enzymes whose expression is associated with the production of the glycopeptide antibiotic balhimycin in Amycolatopsis balhimycina batch cultivations.

Glyco‐Nanogels for Modulating Pseudomonas aeruginosa Biofilm

open access: yesMacromolecular Rapid Communications, EarlyView.
Nanogels presenting α‐galactose and β‐fucose can significantly alter Pseudomonas aeruginosa biofilm dynamics through their interaction with lectins. Application timing is crucial: pre‐treatment reduces biofilm, while treatment after biofilm initiation increases biomass.

Development and ELISA Characterization of Antibodies against the Colistin, Vancomycin, Daptomycin, and Meropenem: A Therapeutic Drug Monitoring Approach

open access: yesAntibiotics
More than 70% of bacteria are resistant to all or nearly all known antimicrobials, creating the need for the development of new types of antimicrobials or the use of “last-line” antimicrobial therapies for the treatment of multi-resistant bacteria. These
