Identification of the murine cytomegalovirus glycoprotein B gene and its expression by recombinant vaccinia virus [PDF]

open access: yes, 1992
The gene encoding glycoprotein B (gB) of murine cytomegalovirus (MCMV) strain Smith was identified, sequenced, and expressed by recombinant vaccinia virus.

Adaptation of hepatitis C virus to mouse CD81 permits infection of mouse cells in the absence of human entry factors

open access: yes, 2010
Hepatitis C virus (HCV) naturally infects only humans and chimpanzees. The determinants responsible for this narrow species tropism are not well defined.

Correlation of group C meningococcal conjugate vaccine response with B- and T-lymphocyte activity. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Despite the success of conjugate vaccination against meningococcal group C (MenC) disease, post-vaccination, some individuals still exhibit rapid waning of initially protective bactericidal antibody levels.

Phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase as a target of pathogens—friend or foe?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.

Infection of bursal disease virus abrogates the extracellular glycoprotein in the follicular medulla

open access: yesPoultry Science, 2021
In the medulla of bursal follicle, only the secretory dendritic cell (BSDC) is furnished with secretory machinery. The granular discharge of BSDC appears in membrane-bound and solubilized forms. Movat pentachrome staining proves that the solubilized form

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

In-silico Immunomodelling of SARS-CoV-2 [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Medical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases, 2021
Introduction: Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) is a positive-sense single-strand RNA virus belonging to the Coronaviridae family, responsible for coronavirus infectious disease 2019 (COVID-19) with the rapid transmission. This

A glycoengineered antigen exploiting a conserved protein O-glycosylation pathway in the Burkholderia genus for detection of glanders infections

open access: yesVirulence, 2021
We recently described a protein O-glycosylation pathway conserved in all species of the Burkholderia genus that results in the synthesis and incorporation of a trisaccharide glycan to membrane-exported proteins.

Mixed Cytomegalovirus Glycoprotein B Genotypes in Immunocompromised Patients [PDF]

open access: yesClinical Infectious Diseases, 2004
On the basis of sequence variation in the UL55 gene that encodes glycoprotein B (gB), human cytomegalovirus (CMV) can be classified into 4 gB genotypes. The goal of the present study was to determine the distribution of CMV gB genotypes and the effect of gB type on clinical outcomes in a cohort of immunocompromised patients, including both transplant ...

The ubiquitin ligase RNF115 is required for the clearance of damaged lysosomes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Upon lysosomal rupture, an E3 ubiquitin ligase RNF115 translocates from the cytosol to the damaged lysosomal membrane. Moreover, RNF115 depletion impairs the clearance of damaged lysosomes, identifying it as a key regulator of lysosomal quality control.
