High‐frequency (HF) welding of steel is limited by oxide inclusions that degrade weld quality. This study demonstrates, for the first time, the integration of a nonthermal Ar/H2 dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) plasma jet into HF welding. Local plasma treatment provides effective shielding and in‐situ oxide reduction, resulting in markedly fewer and ...

Additive Gaussian Process Regression for Predictive Design of High‐Performance, Printable Silicones
A chemistry‐aware design framework for tuning printable polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) for vat photopolymerization (VPP) is developed using additive Gaussian process (GP) modeling. Polymer network mechanics informs variable groupings, feasible formulation constraints, and interaction variables.

Role of grain boundary plane in grain boundary engineering
There is an increasing amount of interest in grain boundary engineering (GBE) to improve the properties of the grain boundary network. In general, research has concentrated on use of a grain boundary misorientation based approach, namely, the coincidence site lattice (CSL), to categorise ‘special’ boundaries.

Trace additions of Sn and Sr combined with a two‐step aging treatment are shown to enhance the microstructure and performance of Al–Zr–Sc conductor alloys. Strength and electrical conductivity increase concurrently through accelerated precipitation of fine Al3(Sc, Zr) precipitates and improved dislocation resistance, offering a cost‐effective pathway ...

Effect of grain boundary migration on grain boundary grooving
Abstract Based on volume diffusion and small slope approximation, the effect of grain boundary migration on grain boundary grooving is studied. Using the Fourier transformation, a closed form solution for grain boundary groove profile is obtained.

Application of Raman and Photoluminescence Spectroscopy to MgO‐C Refractories
Visible to near infrared luminescence of MgO is studied on MgO‐C bricks and nominally pure MgO powder, with focus on two similar sharp high‐intensity signals, at 699 and 871 nm, each surrounded by symmetrical sidebands. The nature of these sidebands is investigated by temperature‐dependent spectroscopic measurements, confirming phonon involvement by ...

METHOD FOR CALCULATION OF STRESS-STRAIN STATE DUE TO SINGLE TWIN IN GRAIN OF VARIOUS FORMS
The paper investigates a stress-strain state in a polycrystalline grain due to presence in its body of a single micro- twin in case of various grain boundary forms.

Importance of low-angle grain boundaries in YBa2Cu3O7-delta coated conductors [PDF]
Over the past ten years the perception of grain boundaries in YBa2Cu3O7-δ conductors has changed greatly. They are no longer a problem to be eliminated but an inevitable and potentially favourable part of the material.

Geometry‐driven thermal behavior in wire‐arc additive manufacturing (WAAM) influences microstructural evolution during nonequilibrium solidification of a chemically complex Fe–Cr–Nb–W–Mo–C nanocomposite system. By comparing different deposits configurations, distinct entropy–cooling rate correlations, segregation, and carbide evolution are revealed ...
