Electronic properties of graphene grain boundaries
Grain boundaries and defect lines in graphene are intensively studied for their novel electronic and magnetic properties. However, there is not a complete comprehension of the appearance of localized states along these defects.

Unraveling Bulk and Grain Boundary Electrical Properties in La0.8Sr0.2Mn1-yO3 Thin Films
Grain boundaries in Sr-doped LaMnO3 thin films have been shown to strongly influence the electronic and oxygen mass transport properties, being able to profoundly modify the nature of the material.

Thermomechanical fatigue tests of laser beam powder bed fusion (PBF‐LB) Inconel 718 show that the additively manufactured material reaches almost the lifetimes of conventionally‐rolled material under no‐dwell conditions. Introducing dwell times at the maximum temperature markedly reduces the lifetimes due to pronounced grain boundary sliding associated

Electron relaxation times and resistivity in metallic nanowires due to tilted grain boundary planes
We calculate the resistivity contribution of tilted grain boundaries with varying parameters in sub-10nm diameter metallic nanowires. The results have been obtained with the Boltzmann transport equation and Fermi's golden rule, retrieving correct state ...

Nickel‐based alloys are widely used in high‐temperature applications due to their excellent mechanical strength and oxidation resistance. However, properties such as high‐temperature strength and pronounced work‐hardening make them difficult to machine.

Micromechanically Based Constitutive Relations for Polycrystalline Solids [PDF]
A basic method to estimate the overall mechanical response of solids which contain periodically distributed defects is presented. The method estimates the shape and growth pattern of voids periodically distributed over the grain boundaries in a viscous ...

The critical current density flowing across low angle grain boundaries in YBa$_2$Cu$_3$O$_{7-\delta}$ thin films has been studied magnetometrically. Films (200 nm thickness) were deposited on SrTiO$_3$ bicrystal substrates containing a single [001] tilt ...

Disordered (Fe50Co50)1−xPtx thin films exhibit a pronounced anomalous Nernst effect (ANE) with a strong composition dependence on both rigid and flexible substrates. The transverse thermoelectric response peaks near 22.5 at.% Pt, accompanied by enhanced αxy/σxy scaling, thermal transport, and ANE sensitivity.

The presented study focuses on the fracture behaviour of carbon‐bonded magnesia MgO–C refractories, where environmentally friendly fructose, collagen and lignin serve as temporary binding agents. The partial substitution of the source material with recycled MgO–C reduces the fracture resistance, which can be counteracted by the additional introduction ...

Garnet-type Li6.1Ga0.3La3Zr2O12 (LGLZO) exhibits high ionic conductivity and extremely low electronic conductivity. The electrochemical properties strongly depend on the characteristics of the grain boundaries and pores in the oxide–ceramic electrolyte ...
