Fluorescent Protein Approaches in Alpha Herpesvirus Research

open access: yesViruses, 2015
In the nearly two decades since the popularization of green fluorescent protein (GFP), fluorescent protein-based methodologies have revolutionized molecular and cell biology, allowing us to literally see biological processes as never before.

Effects of plant growth regulators on transient expression of foreign gene in Nicotiana benthamiana L. leaves

open access: yesBioresources and Bioprocessing, 2021
Background In the last decades, replicating expression vectors based on plant geminivirus have been widely used for enhancing the efficiency of plant transient expression.

The molecular structure of green fluorescent protein [PDF]

open access: yesNature Biotechnology, 1996
The crystal structure of recombinant wild-type green fluorescent protein (GFP) has been solved to a resolution of 1.9 A by multiwavelength anomalous dispersion phasing methods. The protein is in the shape of a cylinder, comprising 11 strands of beta-sheet with an alpha-helix inside and short helical segments on the ends of the cylinder.

Pigmentation of White, Brown, and Green Chicken Eggshells Analyzed by Reflectance, Transmittance, and Fluorescence Spectroscopy

open access: yesChemistryOpen, 2019
We report on the reflectance, transmittance and fluorescence spectra (λ=200–1200 nm) of four types of chicken eggshells (white, brown, light green, dark green) measured in situ without pretreatment and after ablation of 20–100 μm of the outer shell ...

Green fluorescent protein as a reporter of prion protein folding

open access: yesVirology Journal, 2006
Background The amino terminal half of the cellular prion protein PrPc is implicated in both the binding of copper ions and the conformational changes that lead to disease but has no defined structure. However, as some structure is likely to exist we have

Fluorescent proteins as tools to aid protein production

open access: yesMicrobial Cell Factories, 2005
Fluorescent proteins are genetically encoded, highly versatile reporters useful for monitoring various aspects of recombinant protein production. In addition to the widely popular green fluorescent protein (GFP) from Aequorea victoria, a variety of other

Variants of Green Fluorescent Protein GFPxm [PDF]

open access: yesMarine Biotechnology, 2006
As research progresses, fluorescent proteins useful for optical marking will evolve toward brighter, monomeric forms that are more diverse in color. We previously reported a new fluorescent protein from Aequorea macrodactyla, GFPxm, that exhibited many characteristics similar to wild-type green fluorescent protein (GFP).

Getting to grips with ammonium

open access: yeseLife, 2013
A fluorescent sensor that can monitor levels of extracellular ammonium has been made by using a fused green fluorescent protein to detect conformational changes in ammonium transport proteins.

Photoacid Dynamics in the Green Fluorescent Protein

open access: yesAnnual Review of Physical Chemistry, 2023
The photoacid dynamics of fluorescent proteins include both electronic excited- and ground-state mechanisms of proton transfer. The associated characteristic timescales of these reactions range over many orders of magnitude, and the tunneling, barrier crossing, and relevant thermodynamics have in certain cases been linked to coherent nuclear motion ...

Green Fluorescent Protein Expressed in Living Mosquitoes—Without the Requirement of Transformation

open access: yesBioTechniques, 1996
Mosquitoes transmit viruses, protozoa and nematodes that are major causes of morbidity and mortality in humans. Details of arthropod anatomy and development, and the replication and development of pathogens in the arthropod vector, have relied upon ...
