To be a Grid Cell: Shuffling procedures for determining “Gridness” [PDF]
Abstract Grid cells in freely behaving mammals are defined by the strikingly regular periodic spatial distribution of their firing. The standard method of identification calculates the “Gridness” of the spatial firing pattern, with significance being defined relative to the 95 th ...

In situ molecular organization and heterogeneity of the Legionella Dot/Icm T4SS
We present a nearly complete in situ model of the Legionella Dot/Icm type IV secretion system, revealing its central secretion channel and identifying new components. Using cryo‐electron tomography with AI‐based modeling, our work highlights the structure, variability, and mechanism of this complex nanomachine, advancing understanding of bacterial ...

Functional properties of stellate cells in medial entorhinal cortex layer II
Layer II of the medial entorhinal cortex (MEC) contains two principal cell types: pyramidal cells and stellate cells. Accumulating evidence suggests that these two cell types have distinct molecular profiles, physiological properties, and connectivity ...

Endogenous mammalian lectin localized extracellularly in lung elastic fibers. [PDF]
An affinity-purified antibody preparation raised against a beta-galactoside-binding lectin from bovine lung was used to localize a similar lectin in rat lung by immunofluorescence and by electron microscopy after on-grid staining visualized with ...

Modeling Grid Cell Distortions with a Grid Cell Calibration Mechanism
The medial entorhinal cortex of rodents is known to contain grid cells that exhibit precise periodic firing patterns based on the animal’s position, resulting in a distinct hexagonal pattern in space. These cells have been extensively studied due to their potential to unveil the navigational computations that occur within the mammalian brain and ...

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

$2\times 2$ monotone grid classes are finitely based
In this note, we prove that all $2 \times 2$ monotone grid classes are finitely based, i.e., defined by a finite collection of minimal forbidden permutations.

Subtype‐specific enhancer RNAs define transcriptional regulators and prognosis in breast cancers
This study employed machine learning methodologies to perform the subtype‐specific classification of RNA‐seq data sets, which are mapped on enhancers from TCGA‐derived breast cancer patients. Their integration with gene expression (referred to as ProxCReAM eRNAs) and chromatin accessibility profiles has the potential to identify lineage‐specific and ...

A model combining oscillations and attractor dynamics for generation of grid cell firing
Different models have been able to account for different features of the data on grid cell firing properties, including the relationship of grid cells to cellular properties and network oscillations. This paper describes a model that combines elements of
