From mice to humans—divergent strategies for intestinal homeostasis and regeneration

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Recent advances such as organoid genome editing, xenotransplantation, imaging, and whole‐genome sequencing have enabled direct studies of human intestinal stem cells (ISCs). These studies reveal species‐specific features, including slower ISC proliferation, distinct injury responses, slower somatic mutation accumulation in humans, and an inverse ...

Human acidic fibroblast growth factor overexpressed in insect cells is not secreted into the medium

open access: yes, 1990
We have overexpressed human acidic fibroblast growth factor (aFGF) in Spodoptera frugiperda Sf9 cells from a cDNA clone under the control of the promoter of the polyhedrin gene of the baculovirus Autographa californica nuclear polyhedrosis virus.

Phosphoinositides and inositol phosphates as molecular glues

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Inositol phosphates (IPs) and phosphoinositides (PIPs) regulate diverse eukaryotic processes. Beyond recruiting signaling proteins or acting as structural cofactors, recent studies suggest they mediate protein–protein interactions as natural molecular glues.

Effect of Cell Growth and Proliferation Factors (EGF/PDGF Signaling Pathway) on the Etiopathogenesis of Intrauterine Growth Restriction [PDF]

open access: yes
Objective: It is likely that the subgroups of the epidermal growth factor/platelet-derived growth factor (EGF/PDGF) signaling pathway play a role in the etiopathogenesis of intrauterine growth restriction (IUGR).

The diurnal pattern of cytokines, chemokines and growth factors in human saliva—a pilot study

open access: yesFrontiers in Dental Medicine
BackgroundUnderstanding of possible periodicity of cytokines, chemokines and growth factors is of great interest and provide valuable information for research into pathophysiological mechanism of inflammatory disease and chronic pain. Significant efforts

Structural insights and therapeutic targets in Acinetobacter baumannii capsule biosynthesis

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Hypervirulent KL49 A. baumannii's capsular polysaccharide contains the nonulosonic acid 8‐epi‐Leg5,7Ac2, synthesized by epimerization via ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC. Crystal structures of ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC reveal their role in CMP‐Leg5,7Ac2 synthesis and regioselective C8 epimerization.

Insulin-like growth factors (IGFs), IGF binding proteins, and other endocrine factors in milk: role in the newborn

open access: yes, 2008
The role of colostrum and milk in the neonate has been chiefly recognized as a comprehensive nutrient foodstuff. In addition, the provision of colostrum-the first milk-for early immune capacity has been well documented for several species.

Three phosphatase families form a community: The phosphohydrolases that act upon inositol pyrophosphates

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Inositol pyrophosphates are energy‐rich signaling molecules that perform critical functions in cells. Three different families of phosphatases hydrolyze the β phosphate of the inositol pyrophosphate molecules: two have narrow specificities and one is promiscuous.

Basic FGF and IGF-I promote differentiation of human SH-SY5Y neuroblastoma cells in culture

open access: yes, 1994
Phorbolester-triggered differentiation of SH-SY5Y neuroblastoma cells requires serum and a prolonged activation of protein kinase C (PKC). Under serum-free conditions development of a mature phenotype requires phorbolester in combination with a member of
