Insulin sensitivity in adults with growth hormone deficiency and effect of growth hormone treatment

open access: yes, 2005
Adult growth hormone deficiency (GHD) is a multifactorial disorder in which pituitary dysfunction associated with pituitary adenomas or their treatment plays a major role.

Inhibition of IGFBP4 in Granulosa Cells Improves Reproductive Performance and Maintains Fertility With Age via YAP Signaling

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
IGFBP4 is upregulated in granulosa cells of aged ovaries across monkeys, mice, and humans. It inhibits YAP signaling, thereby suppressing cell proliferation and contributing to follicular dysfunction. Deletion of Igfbp4 in granulosa cells enhances ovulatory output, improves hormone profiles, and reproductive performance in aged female mice, suggesting ...

Selection for growth, muscling and fatness alters the maternal performance and intermediary metabolism of Merino ewes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
There is growing interest in selectively breeding Merinos with higher growth and muscling and lower fatness. The effects of selection for these traits on ewe intermediary metabolism, body composition, reproduction and milk production and on lamb ...

Charting Endocrine Progenitors Across Species and Organs

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Endocrine progenitors give rise to the hormone‐producing cells of the pancreas and intestine. Using single‐cell multiomics and proteomics, this study compares these progenitors across species, systems, and organs, mapping the conserved and species‐specific gene regulatory networks that guide their formation.

Engineering Approaches to Modify Immunomodulatory Functions of Mesenchymal Stromal Cells (MSCs): Tissue Regeneration and Clinical Application

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Mesenchymal stromal cells (MSCs) show promise for treating immune‐related disorders through immunomodulation and tissue regeneration. This review gives a brief overview of current clinical approval of MSC therapies. It also discussed how bioengineering, including genetic modification, biomaterial delivery, extracellular vesicles, and iPSC‐derived MSCs,

GHRHR Deficiency Enhances Retinal Ganglion Cell Survival and Visual Functions in Experimental Glaucoma by Inhibiting Ferroptosis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Glaucoma, a major cause of blindness, involves retinal ganglion cell (RGC) degeneration. This study shows growth hormone‐releasing hormone receptor (GHRHR) deficiency preserves RGC survival and restores vision, unlike activation which only aids survival.

Growth hormone (GH) provocation tests and the response to GH treatment in GH deficiency [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
Objective: To identify factors, particularly the growth hormone (GH) provocation test result, affecting growth response to GH treatment in children with GH deficiency (GHD).Subjects: A total of 337 prepubertal GHD patients aged,10 years from the UK ...

Condition‐Associated Pattern Extraction and Recovery From Multi‐Condition Single‐Cell RNA‐seq Data With CAPER

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Decoupling biological signals from unwanted variation in multi‑condition single‑cell RNA sequencing data remains challenging. CAPER disentangles condition‑associated biological effects from sample heterogeneity through matrix factorization, producing interpretable latent factors and a batch‑corrected expression matrix.

A Machine Vision‐Guided Microphysiological Platform With Automated Microfluidics Enables Longitudinal Biomarker Monitoring and Emulation of Translationally Relevant Exposure Scenarios

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A pneumatically actuated multi‐tissue microphysiological system is integrated with AI‐based machine vision and automatic sampling and replenishment systems. The platform allows for the emulation of translationally relevant long‐term pharmacokinetic exposure scenarios for multiple weeks while enabling longitudinal monitoring of response biomarkers ...

RPLP2 Mediates the Beneficial Effects of Exercise on Stress Resistance Through Muscle–Brain Communication

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A novel exercise‐inducible myokine acidic ribosomal protein P2 (RPLP2), initially identified from human trials, is presented here, whose circulating levels negatively correlate with clinical anxiety severity. Muscle‐derived RPLP2 enhances hippocampal ribosomal assembly and adult neurogenesis to rescue stress‐induced anxiety deficits.
