The key role of growth hormone — insulin — IGF-1 signaling in aging and cancer

open access: yesCritical reviews in oncology/hematology, 2013
Studies in mammals have led to the suggestion that hyperglycemia and hyperinsulinemia are important factors in aging. GH/Insulin/insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1) signaling molecules that have been linked to longevity include daf-2 and InR and their ...

Laron syndrome: clinic, diagnostics (а clinical case)

open access: yesMìžnarodnij Endokrinologìčnij Žurnal, 2022
The combination of normal/high levels of somatotropic hormone with low levels of insulin-like growth factor-1 is characteristic of impaired receptor sensitivity to somatotropic hormone, a rare genetically determined syndrome described by Israeli ...

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Nutrient/TOR signaling controls adipose mitochondrial transcription factor A (TFAM) to regulate organismal growth in Drosophila

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Animals must match their growth rate to available nutrients. We show that in Drosophila larvae, the nutrient‐sensing TOR kinase controls growth by regulating levels of TFAM, a key regulator of mitochondrial function, in the adipose tissue. When nutrients are abundant, high TOR activity suppresses TFAM, lowering mitochondrial bioenergetic activity and ...

Insulin-Like Growth Factor (IGF)-I and -11 and IGFBinding Proteins-l, -2, and -3 in Children and Adolescents with Diabetes Mellitus: Correlation with Metabolic Control and Height Attainment. [PDF]

open access: yes, 1995
The putative effects of diabetes and metabolic control on circulating levels of insulin-like growth factors (IGFs) and their binding proteins (IGFBPs) remain controversial.

Growth hormone promotes the reconstruction of injured axons in the hypothalamo-neurohypophyseal system

open access: yesNeural Regeneration Research
Previous studies have shown that growth hormone can regulate hypothalamic energy metabolism, stress, and hormone release. Therefore, growth hormone has great potential for treating hypothalamic injury.

The Content of Insulin-Like Growth Factor 1 and Essential Trace Elements in the Blood Plasma of Children with Different Forms of Short Stature

open access: yesMìžnarodnij Endokrinologìčnij Žurnal, 2016
The content of insulin-like growth factor 1 and essential trace elements (zinc, selenium, copper, manganese, chromium) was studied in the blood plasma of children with short stature, depending on the etiology of the disease. The presence of a significant

Autophagy and mitophagy in pancreatic β‐cell homeostasis and their involvement in diabetes pathophysiology

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This review focuses on the role of autophagy and mitophagy in maintaining pancreatic β‐cell function and homeostasis. We discuss how genetic defects affecting these pathways contribute to the development of type 1, type 2, monogenic, and gestational diabetes. We further explore their potential as therapeutic targets. Created in BioRender.

Single nucleotide polymorphisms at the imprinted bovine insulin-like growth factor 2 (IGF2) locus are associated with dairy performance in Irish Holstein-Friesian cattle [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
peer-reviewedThe imprinted insulin-like growth factor 2 gene (IGF2) encodes a fetal mitogenic hormone protein (IGF-II) and has previously been shown to be associated with performance in dairy cattle.

Assessment of somatotropic function in children with syndrome of biologically inactive growth hormone against a background of clonidine and insulin stimulation tests

open access: yesMìžnarodnij Endokrinologìčnij Žurnal, 2019
Background. Growth pathology caused by somatotropic insufficiency is one of the most urgent problems in pediatric endocrinology. An increase in the growth hormone (GH) level less than 10 ng/ml was traditionally considered a criterion for diagnosing ...
