GSH and analogs in antiviral therapy

Molecular Aspects of Medicine, 2009
Reduced glutathione (GSH) is the most prevalent non-protein thiol in animal cells. Its de novo and salvage synthesis serves to maintain a reduced cellular environment. GSH is the most powerful intracellular antioxidant and plays a role in the detoxification of a variety of electrophilic compounds and peroxides via catalysis by glutathione-S ...

The fairytale of the GSSG/GSH redox potential

Biochimica Et Biophysica Acta - General Subjects, 2013
The term GSSG/GSH redox potential is frequently used to explain redox regulation and other biological processes. The relevance of the GSSG/GSH redox potential as driving force of biological processes is critically discussed. It is recalled that the concentration ratio of GSSG and GSH reflects little else than a steady state, which overwhelmingly results

Modulation of endothelial GSH concentrations: effect of exogenous GSH and GSH monoethyl ester

Journal of Applied Physiology, 1989
We studied the effects of exogenous glutathione (GSH) and GSH monoethyl ester (GSH-MEE) on the enhancement of endothelial GSH concentrations. The preparation of GSH-MEE used contained 91% GSH-MEE, approximately 9% GSH diethyl ester (GSH-DEE) and a trace amount of GSH.

Divergent effects of intravenous GSH and cysteine on renal and hepatic GSH

American Journal of Physiology-Regulatory, Integrative and Comparative Physiology, 1992
There is a growing interest in the therapeutic use of sulfhydryls. To assess the effect of glutathione (GSH) and cysteine on the cellular thiol status, thiols were administered intravenously to rats in doses ranging from 1.67 to 8.35 mmol/kg with and without pretreatment with 4 mmol/kg buthionine-[S,R]-sulfoximine (BSO), an inhibitor of GSH synthesis.

Traffic Forwarding with GSH/GLOGIN

13th Euromicro Conference on Parallel, Distributed and Network-Based Processing, 2005
Interactive grid computing requires steering of remote parallel applications. On the one hand, the control data stream of a local steering part of a distributed application need to be forwarded onto all involved nodes in the grid. On the other hand, results from the grid need to be collected and sent back to the local application.
