Pathway of human AS3MT arsenic methylation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
A synthetic gene encoding human As(III) S-adenosylmethionine (SAM) methyltransferase (hAS3MT) was expressed, and the purified enzyme was characterized.

Glutathione (GSH) conjugates with dopamine (DA)-derived quinones to form reactive or non-reactive GSH-conjugates [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
In this study we demonstrate for the first time that GSH could rapidly conjugate with dopamine (DA)-derived DA-o-quinones without enzymatic catalysis to form short-lived intermediate GSH-conjugates (2-S-GSH-DA-o-quinone and 5-S-GSH-DA-o-quinone).

Artificial rearing influences the morphology, permeability and redox state of the gastrointestinal tract of low and normal birth weight piglets [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Background: In this study the physiological implications of artificial rearing were investigated. Low (LBW) and normal birth weight (NBW) piglets were compared as they might react differently to stressors caused by artificial rearing.

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

Extracellular cysteine in connexins: Role as redox sensors [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Indexación: Scopus.Connexin-based channels comprise hemichannels and gap junction channels. The opening of hemichannels allow for the flux of ions and molecules from the extracellular space into the cell and vice versa.

The planar cell polarity protein Vangl2 interacts with the PDZ‐domains of Scribble but not with a unique PDZ‐like domain in Inturned

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Structural and biochemical characterisations show that the planar cell polarity (PCP) protein Inturned harbours a unique PDZ‐like domain that does not bind canonical PDZ‐binding motifs (PBMs) like that of another PCP protein Vangl2. In contrast, the apical‐basal polarity protein Scribble contains four PDZ domains that bind Vangl2, but one PDZ domain ...

Interaction of ROS and RNS with GSH and GSH/GPX Systems

open access: yesThe FASEB Journal, 2015
Rapid reactivity amongst the free radicals and its capability to inflict severe damages to cell has evolved cell redox systems with multiple pathways of counteracting and counterbalancing mechanisms. One of the important cell redox pathways is glutathione (GSH) and GSH/glutathione peroxidase (GPX) enzyme system.

Exploiting metabolic adaptations to overcome dabrafenib treatment resistance in melanoma cells

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We show that dabrafenib‐resistant melanoma cells undergo mitochondrial remodeling, leading to elevated respiration and ROS production balanced by stronger antioxidant defenses. This altered redox state promotes survival despite mitochondrial damage but renders resistant cells highly vulnerable to ROS‐inducing compounds such as PEITC, highlighting redox
