Loss of Mgat5a-mediated N-glycosylation stimulates regeneration in zebrafish

open access: yesCell Regeneration, 2016
Background: We are using genetics to identify genes specifically involved in hearing regeneration. In a large-scale genetic screening, we identified mgat5a, a gene in the N-glycosylation biosynthesis pathway whose activity negatively impacts hair cell ...

In Situ Genetic Engineering Facilitates MMP‐9‐Responsive TIMP1 Release Through Proteolytic Cleavage to Boost Diabetic Wound Healing

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study develops an MMP‐9‐responsive protein release system that transforms resident cells into drug depots through in situ genetic engineering. Anchored to the membrane, the therapeutic protein TIMP1 is selectively released upon MMP‐9 cleavage.

Organoid Brain‐Machine‐Interface Devices for Central Nervous System Repair

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
We envision organoid brain‐machine‐interface (Organoid‐BMI) devices as new biohybrid bidirectional communication pathways to connect the human CNS and the external world for personalized CNS repair and regeneration. ABSTRACT Central nervous system (CNS) repair and regeneration suffer from tremendous clinical challenges due to current limitations in ...

RPLP2 Mediates the Beneficial Effects of Exercise on Stress Resistance Through Muscle–Brain Communication

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A novel exercise‐inducible myokine acidic ribosomal protein P2 (RPLP2), initially identified from human trials, is presented here, whose circulating levels negatively correlate with clinical anxiety severity. Muscle‐derived RPLP2 enhances hippocampal ribosomal assembly and adult neurogenesis to rescue stress‐induced anxiety deficits.

An induced pluripotent stem cell-based approach for hair follicle development and regeneration

open access: yesRegenerative Therapy
Because hair loss is a common concern for many individuals, potential regenerative therapies of hair follicles have been extensively researched. Induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) are a promising avenue for hair follicle regeneration.

Unraveling Bone‐Skin Crosstalk Enables miRNA Nanoformulation for Cutaneous Neurovascular Reconstruction in Diabetic Mice

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study unravels that bone fracture accelerates diabetic wound healing by releasing exosomal microRNA (miR‐130b‐3p). To mimic this bone‐skin crosstalk, we engineered a self‐assembling agomir‐130b‐3p nanocomplex. Delivered via a photocrosslinkable hydrogel, this bio‐inspired therapy provides sustained localized agomir release.

Functionalized Biomimetic Scaffolds for Human‐Derived Auditory Neural Circuit Construction

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
In Vitro Auditory Circuit Model. ABSTRACT Damage to auditory circuits results in sensorineural hearing loss. However, the scarcity of human inner ear tissue significantly hinders the development of therapies to preserve auditory function, creating a critical need for reliable in vitro models.

prdm1a drives a fate switch between hair cells of different mechanosensory organs

open access: yesNature Communications
Vertebrate inner ear mechanosensory hair cells detect sound and gravitational forces. Additionally, fishes have homologous lateral line hair cells in the skin that detect water vibrations for orientation and predator avoidance.

Intermittent Fasting Restores Cardiac Lipid Homeostasis in Diabetic Cardiomyopathy in Association With Akkermansia Muciniphila and 1‐methyl‐L‐histidine

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Intermittent fasting reshapes the gut microbiota in diabetic cardiomyopathy, restoring Akkermansia muciniphila and the microbiota‐associated metabolite 1‐methyl‐L‐histidine. This shift is linked to improved cardiac lipid homeostasis, reduced lipid peroxidation, and attenuated myocardial injury, highlighting a gut microbiota–metabolite–lipid axis in ...
