On halo orbits spacecraft stabilization

Acta Astronautica, 1996
Abstract The paper deals with the application of recent non-linear control techniques to the problem of tracking and maintaining a given satellite on prescribed orbits around the so-called translunar libration point L2. Such orbits, known in literature as Halo Orbits, have the property of ensuring visibility both from the dark side of the Moon and ...

Almost rectilinear halo orbits

20th Aerospace Sciences Meeting, 1982
The paper deals with a study of the problem of existence of families of three-dimensional ''halo'' periodic orbits in the circular restricted three-body problem emanating from the vicinity of any of the collinear equilibrium points. Numerical studies, provided by the authors, show that there exist almost rectilinear and thin orbits aligned ...

On-orbit calibration of HALOE detector linearity

Applied Optics, 2007
The Halogen Occultation Experiment (HALOE) conducted satellite solar occultation measurements for 14 years ending on 21 November 2005. HALOE contained a calibration wheel, which included three neutral density filters that were used to examine response linearity through a combination of ground and on-orbit measurements.

Three-dimensional, periodic, ?halo? orbits

Celestial Mechanics, 1984
The paper presents a wide numerical study of families of three- dimensional, periodic, ''halo'' orbits nearby the collinear equilibrium points in the restricted three-body problem. Using an integration procedure of Kutta-Merson with some modifications to get the periodic orbits and determine the stability, the author has calculated about 1000 orbits ...

Nonlinear regulation in halo orbits control design

[1992] Proceedings of the 31st IEEE Conference on Decision and Control, 2005
The design and simulation of feedback control laws for tracking prescribed quasi-halo orbits around the translunar libration point L/sub 2/ in the Earth-Moon system are considered. The nonlinear regulation approach is used to design control laws for asymptotically tracking those trajectories.

Bifurcations Thresholds of Halo Orbits

2016
In this work an analytical study of the bifurcation of the halo orbits around the collinear points L1 and L2 for the circular, spatial, restricted three–body problem is presented. The energy level at which the bifurcation takes place, for arbitrary values of the mass ratio, is found by reducing the Hamiltonian of the problem into a synchronous resonant

A new approach to halo orbit determination and control

Astrodynamics Conference, 1994
Summary: A simple, iterative numerical method for the determination of halo orbits of the circular restricted three-body problem is developed. The nonlinearities inherent to the halo orbit problem are treated as trajectory-dependent persistent disturbance inputs. The method then utilizes a disturbance accommodating, linear state-feedback controller for

Mission design for a halo orbiter of the earth

Astrodynamics Conference, 1976
The International Sun-Earth Explorer (ISEE) scientific satellite to be stationed in 1978 in the vicinity of the sun-earth interior libration point to continuously monitor the space between the sun and the earth, including the distant geomagnetic tail is described.

Direct lunar halo orbit transfers

The Journal of the Astronautical Sciences, 2008
This paper provides a robust survey of short-duration, two-burn transfers from the Earth to lunar halo orbits. The results show that several families of such transfers exist, including quick four- to five-day transfers, as well as more efficient transfers that require three or more weeks.
