Mechanisms for Haptic Torque Feedback

First Joint Eurohaptics Conference and Symposium on Haptic Interfaces for Virtual Environment and Teleoperator Systems, 2005
This paper presents a state of the art in torque and force/torque feedback mechanisms, from 1-dof rotary knobs to redundant 10-dof mechanisms. This preliminary study, together with our recent attainments in haptics and virtual reality, draws future lines of work for our research.

A Haptic Feedback Touch Panel

2019
We present a haptic feedback touch panel. This actuator is capable of generating haptic stimulations, and thus can be used as a vibrotactile display. It is composed of two layers, a touch panel and a glass panel, each coated with ITO electrode. Unlike conventional vibration motors, it does not require an additional mass.

Glasses with haptic feedback of gaze gestures

CHI '14 Extended Abstracts on Human Factors in Computing Systems, 2014
We introduce eyeglasses that present haptic feedback when using gaze gestures for input. The glasses utilize vibrotactile actuators to provide gentle stimulation to three locations on the user's head. We describe two initial user studies that were conducted to evaluate the easiness of recognizing feedback locations and participants' preferences for ...

The Impact of Haptic and Visual Feedback on Teaching

2020 IEEE Conference on Virtual Reality and 3D User Interfaces Abstracts and Workshops (VRW), 2020
Haptic feedback, an important aspect of learning in virtual reality, has been demonstrated in contexts such as surgical training. However, deploying haptic feedback in other educational practices remains understudied. Haptically-enabled science simulations enable students to experience abstract scientific concepts through concrete and observable ...

On Suturing Simulation with Haptic Feedback

2008
We present a mechanics-based haptic simulation of an arbitrary suturing task for a simple skin or a soft tissue wound closure. The pre-wound suturing target, the skin or the deformable tissue, is modeled as a modified mass-spring system. The suturing material is modeled based on the linear finite-element model with some novel extensions for enhancing ...

Mechano thermo and proprioceptor feedback for integrated haptic feedback

Proceedings of International Conference on Robotics and Automation, 2002
Haptic sensation has two complex components; skin (cutaneous) sensing which is mediated by a variety of sensing organs that respond to pressure, vibration, displacement and temperature and kinaesthetic/proprioceptive sensing (muscles and joints) which responds to motions and forces exerted by the interaction of the body with the external environment ...

Adding haptic feedback to mobile tv

CHI '11 Extended Abstracts on Human Factors in Computing Systems, 2011
With the abundance of large-screen displays, mobile device users currently have little motivation to stream video content and TV broadcasts to their device - the desire to watch content 'on the move' does not currently outweigh the necessity of viewing this content on a miniaturised screen.

Haptic feedback for multilayer cutting.

Studies in health technology and informatics, 2008
An approach in effectively estimating the force feedback for a tactile haptic based on multi-proxy rendering for 3D surface cuttings for a virtual surgery simulation is described in this paper. The force-models representing haptic force-feedback are approximated using D'Alembert's principle in the mechanic case of spring-damper-stiffness interaction of

Simulating Haptic Feedback Using Vision: A Survey of Research and Applications of Pseudo-Haptic Feedback

Presence: Teleoperators and Virtual Environments, 2009
This paper presents a survey of the main results obtained in the field of “pseudo-haptic feedback”: a technique meant to simulate haptic sensations in virtual environments using visual feedback and properties of human visuo-haptic perception. Pseudo-haptic feedback uses vision to distort haptic perception and verges on haptic illusions.

Haptic Device with Gripping Force Feedback

Proceedings of the 2005 IEEE International Conference on Robotics and Automation, 2006
This paper presents a haptic device with gripping force feedback, which is a part of the microsurgery robot system developed in our lab. This device includes a master manipulator with an interactive gripping force sensing, and a relative sensing finger located at the end of the slave manipulator.
